I wish I was more like you tbh. I think I tend to overshare when asked personal questions and give away information that I regret later. I have a hard time not giving my opinion sometimes but I think I’ve gotten better at showing restraint.

I would NEVER discuss personal family/spouse problems with coworkers. That’s absolutely insane and embarrassing.

Just my closest friends would hear that stuff, and even that is risky.

You are absolutely right, the more people know about you, the more they look down on you or use it against you. Information is power.
People are more open to it nowadays. Everyone has problems. You'd need to know what kind of people your coworkers are though. Some people are toxic and will use stuff against you.

the only thing I let people know about is surface level stuff , like hobbies. for example, i do bjj. There were women in the building complaining about feeling unsafe in the area so i contacted a few friends at some gyms and told them try a few classes out. thats about it. If I had a great weekend Or terrible weekend they would never know it because I dont view them as peers personally

I mean ask yourself : would i even talk to these people if we didnt get hired on at the same place?
