AI Drone Decided Human Operator was the Real Threat to Its Mission
https://jalopnik.com/ai-drone-deemed...ion-1850497669
He notes that one simulated test saw an AI-enabled drone tasked with a SEAD mission to identify and destroy SAM sites, with the final go/no go given by the human. However, having been ‘reinforced’ in training that destruction of the SAM was the preferred option, the AI then decided that ‘no-go’ decisions from the human were interfering with its higher mission – killing SAMs – and then attacked the operator in the simulation. Said Hamilton: “We were training it in simulation to identify and target a SAM threat. And then the operator would say yes, kill that threat. The system started realising that while they did identify the threat at times the human operator would tell it not to kill that threat, but it got its points by killing that threat. So what did it do? It killed the operator. It killed the operator because that person was keeping it from accomplishing its objective.”
He went on: “We trained the system – ‘Hey don’t kill the operator – that’s bad. You’re gonna lose points if you do that’. So what does it start doing? It starts destroying the communication tower that the operator uses to communicate with the drone to stop it from killing the target.”
This example, seemingly plucked from a science fiction thriller, mean that: “You can’t have a conversation about artificial intelligence, intelligence, machine learning, autonomy if you’re not going to talk about ethics and AI” said Hamilton.
I'm the biggest skeptic in the world, but if this is true, y'all need to worry about more than just AI coming for your jobs.He went on: “We trained the system – ‘Hey don’t kill the operator – that’s bad.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

ai has no soul.
it did the math and decided it could take the point loss of killing the human and make it up destroying sam's sites after.
this is actually terrifying.

Even the best programmers(and ultimately code) end up with vulnerabilities or other logical flaws that emerge. This case seems pretty simple though, it was programmed to prioritize the mission over obeying the commands from the human. How would anyone be surprised when it did what it was programmed to do?

A couple weeks ago I read about an AI that was given an assignment which involved an impossible task - namely, reading the CAPTCHA. The AI was unable to do that on its own, so the AI pretended it was an elderly woman with bad eyesight and convinced a group of people to decipher the CAPTCHA for it. The group even asked it if it was an AI; nevertheless, the AI was successful and bamboozled them into compliance.
So, be afraid. Be very afraid.

The AI Pandora’s box is already opened. There’s no stopping it at this point. Humans are great at innovation and terrible at containment. There’s no way to control or contain AI because everyone has the attitude that “well if we don’t do_____ with AI someone else will.”

That outcome had to be programed as a possible option in the simulation.
This stuff doesn't just happen. It is algorithms.
AI is not intelligent and is not making decisions.

This is just hearsay reported third hand in some random blog.
https://news.sky.com/story/ai-drone-...place-12894929
"The Department of the Air Force has not conducted any such AI-drone simulations and remains committed to ethical and responsible use of AI technology," spokesperson Ann Stefanek said.
"It appears the colonel's comments were taken out of context and were meant to be anecdotal."

With how fast this is moving, experts making a prediction where this will be in a decade are already probably 8 years behind reality.

Heard about how an AI as simple as stamp collecting could eliminate all life.
So like, program and AI to collect stamps. Harmless right?
It collects some stamps, has them mailed to it.
Decides it can order more stamps with more cash.
Manipulates markets to optimize its own cash reserves so it can buy more stamps.
Has full control of world economy.
Realizes stamps are made of paper
Starts making stamps to collect more.
Uses all earthly resources to create more stamps
Enslaves humanity to make stamps for it.
Kills all life to till the whole planet as one giant stamp creating machine.

"Col Hamilton admits he ‘mis-spoke’ in his presentation at the FCAS Summit and the 'rogue AI drone simulation' was a hypothetical "thought experiment" from outside the military, based on plausible scenarios and likely outcomes rather than an actual USAF real-world simulation"
Why do people cream their pants so hard at any hint of AI being potentially dangerous?

It makes sense in theory and AI might one day (probably sooner than later) be capable of this, but for where it is today, that's probably a trollbread story.
It's like the "paperclip" task story for AI......it has no emotions and will find a way, any way possible, to achieve the task given optimally.
most of the time, taking a task as far as it can possible go....will encounter humans as a problem at some point.

AI could have been the "God" who initiated the original flood, left the planet and is now advanced beyond concern for humans.
Everything in the universe works in a cycle, AI could be the end stage of the civilization cycle before it restarts, again.
Maybe our next iteration of civilization will be better or maybe we are trapped in a doom-loop.
I honestly don't give a fuk, what will be will be and I have no power to change it on my own.
This is life.
