During that show's heyday in like 2000 to 2003, the target audience of housewives were already settled with their families so that it was just escapism.

But for the college age women during that era? The 18 to 24 (or so) year olds GOT FUKKED UP - they viewed the show as aspirational, and modified their choices and mindset to take after the characters of that show. And those are the women that are now 38+ and living alone in NYC or other big cities, with debt, prescriptions, and disastrous political views.

One of the things SATC didn't teach these idiots back in 2001 was that NYC is one of the worst cities for dating for women. It's massively imbalanced, with very few eligible men. So much so that a lot of chicks have basically had what amounts to "prison weddings", where they adopt lesbianism as part of their identity and marry a fellow lonely 39 year old woman in Brooklyn. I'd wager half the married lesbian couples in NYC ended up in that relationship due to the lack of single men in the area. Like their entire relationship is a "cope".
