Also, why is there open hatred for 50 year old white guys? Why are they being bypassed for younger, more diverse and less experienced people, especially when our lives depend on it?

I'm only 6 years away from 50, and fear how intense the hatred for me will be, even though I'm not a billionaire.
Its jealousy. People draw the conclusion that for someone to be a billionaire, millions of working class get screwed over in the work force in terms of PTO, wages, etc etc. Its partly true, but they would do the exact same thing if put in their shoes, and at the end of the day, all these people still shop on amazon daily or upgrade their phone every year.

The old white man is just another product of the workforce. The old white man in the senior roll.

Everyone worried about the torque wrench just needs to think like a cheap ass billionaire.

Ok boyos, had a gummy about 30 minutes ago and just mixed a gin and tonic. So the time has come to start the Oceangate memorial triple feature. I'm going back to the 80s to learn what and what not to do in the deep ocean.

In order of showing -----> Deep Star Six-1989, Leviathan-1989, and The Abyss-1989 (RIP - Lt. Coffey). Total runtime - 342 minutes

I don't really remember Deep Star Six, but I remember the other 2 were good. Hope it's not dogchit...

When I first read that the sub had to be bolted closed from the outside, I was imagining this:

Not this

They look about the same size as the brake caliper bolts on my car, and certainly smaller than the crank pulley bolt. I wonder if they were at least fastened in a star pattern lol?

It's all coming to light now (unlike the Titan)

We should still update the thread with more news and discovers as time goes on.

One of the videos I saw had taped on numbers which I assumed were the order the bolts were to be tightened lol.

I wonder how the diversity hires, formerly working for OceanGate, are doing right about now?

Will they spill their guts or stay silent? Will they find alternate work or be black-balled in the engineering community? The misc needs to know.

They will quietly be absorbed into some nameless global homo engineering corp. It's super difficult to finding diversity hires in any stem field.

Probably correct. Then more people will die after 50 year old white men get fired for bringing up safety concerns. James Cameron will go on CNN and say "I told ya so, I mother fkn I toad a so"

That's outdated, but even then Cameron was the third. From wikipedia:

In 1960, Don Walsh and Jacques Piccard were the first two humans to reach Challenger Deep, completing that dive as a team.[4] 52 years later, James Cameron became the first person to solo dive that point. Piccard, Walsh and Cameron remained the only people to reach the world's deepest seafloor until 2019, when regular dives in DSV Limiting Factor began. To date, 19 of the 22 successful descents have been made in the DSV Limiting Factor. No other craft has made a repeat descent.

Had the guy went down by himself or with financial backers only a few times (enough to pay off his costs/Oceangate) and THEN called it quits due to safety-issues......then he would be still-alive mad-genius in my mind.

At the end of the day his mistake wasn't the xbox controller or construction it was greed.

Chit also just goes wrong. He had a small company. He could have reasonably engineered it and not been aware of the issue. People are quick to argue there was something intrinsically wrong with the sub. But flukes and mistakes and defects happen. It might not have had anything to do with the engineering.

Greed and delusional narcissism. If he had enough self awareness to stop after one or even a few trips down, he would be a legendary adventurer who built his own sub at a hardware store and actually made it despite the yuge risks.

But he was so greedy and high on his own farts, he thought he had outsmarted every other expert who told him it was a bad idea. He convinced himself he found a shortcut that everyone else was too dumb to think up.

In the end, it's fitting that he ended up right next to the other graveyard of MOGGER hubris.

Another really interesting but morbid angle is that this guy was a sui-mogger. Lets just imagine on some level he did wanna leave this clown world. Albeit he shoulda went down alone but he concocted a way to leave this material world in an almost unduplicatable fashion. You couldn't even make a machine prolly to have those kinda forces of the ocean on your body to kill you.

Dude went from being alive to less-than-vapor/sea-dust faster than a person could even think about offing themselves.

impressive.

the more I think about it...the more I think this CEOchad was successful. Not in the traditional Hollywood ending way but .....

nice rickyism.even Ricky and Bubbles could build a better sub out of stolen barbecues.that CEO was a POS and deserved what he he got in one of the best examples of poetic justice.if this didnt happen now many more people could have died.i cant believe nobody from a goverment agency didnt stop him.
