It likely depends if the company hid safety issues from them/knew about issues & did nothing to fix them. From what we have seen/heard so far both seem highly probable & I think lawsuits will follow, not only from the families of the deceased, but others who had near misses, or who just went on it-but weren't told all the risks.

A court could easily rule it was negligent and reckless to build a sub out of used rv parts and tell customers it's safe for 6000 pounds of pressure. Not like multiple experts, including their own guy who they fired, didn't warn them.

Really it is impossible to see this company doing anything other than declaring bankruptcy-there aren't going to be many people willing to go on them for free, let alone paying hundreds of thousands after this-so what future do they have anyway?

Its can't be proven because engineering has an aspect of subjective opinion. Engineers spend alot of time debating whether to do this or that for safety reasons and often don't come to an agreement, which is why we have cars like Hondas and Cadillacs with different engineering blueprints. Some things are easily proven negligent though for example if the lid of a hot coffee cup pops off with the slightest force. You can't prove that with submarine engineering because of the complexity in economics and engineering.

That said, if he is found for negligence, I would find it when the ship underwent testing as that's where you see the software data on how much pressure the hull could take and how many times. But that wouldn't hold up either because if he saw the data with his own eyes, he wouldn't have gotten on the ship.

Yes that's a problem but its not an obvious one until after a major tragedy.

As I've mentioned before, sub marine diving will be made safer for the next 100 years because of this. This is in contrast to car wrecks.

I'm saying all of this because I too have just recently gotten into a debate with an engineer about all the safety stuff that goes into airplanes n chit. Basically I told him I can do without all that safety bullchit if I ever built my own stuff and he scolded me for it.

Isn't the guy on video laughing about the plexiglass cracking? There is stuff in the courts already from 2018 about him firing a high-up in his company for bringing up safety issues, after he commissioned the guy to do a report. He is ignoring a marine board in correspondence when they raise concerns etc. Not that it makes any real difference-the company is toast & will file for Chapter 11.

The blackbox had its own pressure hull correct? Maybe we will get some audio recordings of Stockton Slap and co chitting bricks before it all went south

Every part recovered so far. Must say I'm surprised that so much survived the implosion. Looks like pressure vessel (crew compartment) is the only thing that got destroyed.

It's possible the sub ascended quite far before imploding, in which case the pressure would be less damaging, but still enough to rek them pretty bad
