The post newspaper for JBLM had this story last week, the freezing of PCS moves from some overseas assignments until next spring. The AF missed its recruitment goal by over 10,000 airmen. As a vet, I would not recommend the military to anyone these days unless you are a self loathing POS and/or hate this country. Walking around this base is an eye opener every day. Fat men and women left and right.

Even in my early years (early 2000s) there were overweight and lazy people everywhere. And I know the Army and Marines don't do this, but the Air Force never gave merit to physical fitness. It's on our evaluations as "pass or fail" and in reality doesn't matter or count towards promotions or anything else (no points or value, just pass or fail). So what is the motivation for Airmen to maintain a high standard of fitness if it doesn't matter? Exactly. However, we were expected to volunteer 80 hours a week, be at every unit function/luncheon, and do 40 credit hours of schoolwork a month. All of this mattered more than being excellent at your job or fitness.

I've pretty much told my kids they aren't allowed to go military given its current state. None of them argued. They've seen the chit I've had to deal with firsthand.

As a dad, that is a good call. Well done. Im on the Army side of JBLM and our Soldiers are a mess, its been speeding down hill since COVID on the PT/fitness track. Its a shame.
