Making money with YouTube
MISC, aware me on these non-commentary gameplay channels making hundreds of dollars (according to social blade) a day uploading casual gameplay with no webcam or microphone.
Example:
Channels:
NoAnnoyingCommentary:
319K subs | 1.6K videos
$1.5K-24.1K/month | $18.1K-289.4K/year
111.8M video views
CoD Warzone
MarshalNoCommentary:
217K subs | 1.7K videos
$666-10.7K/month | $8K-127.8K/year
73.4M video views
CoD Warzone
Apollo432:
655K subs | 2.8K videos
$183-2.9K/month | $2.2K-35.2K/year
281M video views
Battlefield, CoD, etc.
^This guy has 600K subs but seems to have taken long breaks.
blackdog47tv
13.5K subs | 1K videos
$43-695/month | $521-8.3K/year
6.5M video views
Battlefield
Livox - 4K Gaming
9K subs | 821 videos
$48-776/month | $576-9.2K/year
4.9M video views
Battlefield/FPS
Let's not forget the goat MKIceAndFire bringing in thousands a day having not spoken a word making $5K-80K a month at 7K uploads and 3.5M subscribers with 1.9B views.
Is it as lucrative as it seems?

Pick a niche and start making videos consistently. You probably already have a phone that shoots good enough to start. Youtube is the GOAT because it takes effort unlike twitter or insta chitposting, so there's not much competition.
There was a dude living in my old apartment who has a youtube channel (i recognized he lived in my building from the b-roll shots), just makes stupid videos about his niche. Writes the script, shoots the vid and the b-roll, puts out a video every week or every other week. 300k subscribers now. Drove a nice mustang in his 20s.
IDK how much his parents helped him out tho to afford the place and the ride.
Just start it and keep going and you'd probably be able to live on it in a few years.

social blade is probably not accurate. i remember reading in the past that gaming channels don't make much due to copyright issues with gaming videos. don't know if true.
the key is making high quality content, use good clickbait headlines and thumbnails, and try to advertise other sources of income in the videos. you can also make additional channels with clips from your long videos or youtube shorts.
headless and how-to get rich youtube channels are kinda popular how as well. in headless channels it's jus the person narrating some video with their own or someone else's voice (ex: politics, games, some celeb news), while in how-to videos people pretend to be experts on something (ex: how to make money on youtube), and just create tons of content trying to sell bs. using ai (chatgpt & midjourney) is also popular at the moment.

I know those "make money online" and other finance channels are in demand since it directly involves money which brings in better sponsors etc. I've wanted to delve into a headless channel narrating horror stories but haven't acted upon it yet lol. I just thought these guys were making a decent amount of $$$ for not much effort.

Let me save you some time and a lot of heartache by saying the non-fun answer that get rich quick scheme fans don't like to talk about. Chances are, you're never going to make money off of youtube videos. Certainly nothing resembling a career, and the odds are stacked against you.
You say you want to start a gaming channel. There are hundreds of thousands of people just like you already doing the same thing. Hardly any of them get much for views, and you'd be competing with them all for attention. It takes a lot of luck at this point to get big on youtube, especially doing something as cliche as uploading gaming footage.
Then you say you don't want to add commentary to these hypothetical gaming videos you would be making. I get it, but by doing that, you're slashing your already low odds of success by about 95%. I'm sure there are some success stories with it, but only the biggest subset of autists consider watching someone else they don't know play video games on youtube to be legitimate entertainment.
My point is, understand that the odds are heavily stacked against you, especially when you aren't offering anything different or interesting than the other millions of people wanting to do the same thing. So don't get your hopes way up. No hate man, and good luck.

I do think it may be saturated. But it's a good niche cause it's so broad - and you don't have to be a winner in life (narrowing your pool). You got literally every niche combined in a niche, cause it's a made up world
I have to say, I've done niches people said were saturated. For instance, health and lifestyle.. and I never finished my site and I only advertised once but I made money off of it despite that

If the gods wanted you to have money
You would have been born into a wealthy family or won the lotto
Not to sound disheartening but its already been written
The channels you see that seem unbelievably easy because they are friends & family of YouTube employees keep it in the family so to speak
They all follow a certain narrative that changes regularly if your not in the know you always a few steps behind which is enough for you channel to never get enough attention
Sad but true

You've made great points I'd like to tackle.
Not just any type of gaming channel, the laziest form of gaming channels. And not just any type of gaming vids, things some ppl for whatever reason have no problem watching. Granted that the money would be worth recording and uploading 15-30mins of gaming you already do, with minimal post-production. You'd sort of hope the lifejacket reaches you like your predecessors. Ofc there're things you can do to make yourself more likely saved than others, but the situation is bleak. It's definitely a low effort gamble. Then you say you don't want to add commentary to these hypothetical gaming videos you would be making. I get it, but by doing that, you're slashing your already low odds of success by about 95%. I suppose this would be our target demographic, lol, BUT I am a man of experimentation and if there's a possibility to add my voice in a way that doesn't require me to think too hard about the gameplay, I could see myself testing commentary as well. What I'm trying to grasp is low effort videos people somehow gravitate towards because it fills some need that's also potentially lucrative, but then again idk how much these guys are making. It's like wanting to be a YTer w/o being an actual YTer. Which is why I've been analyzing these channels and their communities to see wtf gives. Ofc this all depends on them making decent cash. In my mind, I can pop out videos like these with my hands tied behind my back (skill being another topic). My point is, understand that the odds are heavily stacked against you, especially when you aren't offering anything different or interesting than the other millions of people wanting to do the same thing. So don't get your hopes way up. No hate man, and good luck.
Agreed, that is the entire point of this movement, doing the least and scraping by somehow.I can totally put more effort in if required tho I think this is an interesting "loophole" worth diving into.

I lol'd at the part about no commentary. How low effort can you get? Nobody cares about those kinds of videos unless it's at least speed runs or something, and that's usually done with older games.

They all follow a certain narrative that changes regularly if your not in the know you always a few steps behind which is enough for you channel to never get enough attention

I lol'd at the part about no commentary. How low effort can you get? Nobody cares about those kinds of videos unless it's at least speed runs or something, and that's usually done with older games.

Ive got a friend with signed music to big EDM labels you know who many festivals he plays none
If your not in the circle they don’t let you in no matter how good the content is
Only chance of making money on a gaming channel is to start collaborating with others like a clan
Any of these YouTube programmers familys & friends can make the easy gaming content

Alright it's not a hostile takeover I just want piece of the pie.
Perhaps they benefited greatly from the jab while everyone was home.
Gotta do more research to understand where they went right. I'm sure it mostly boils down to consistency since after a while I'd imagine similar channels quitting after not going anywhere. The ones that survive gain all the viewership.

I was a Twitch affiliate so yeah I was under contract I could only stream on Twitch. Had to wait 24 hours to upload to YT. I do graphic design so I had 10/10 layout, sponsors, high end streaming equipment, I was entertaining, good at every game I played and still it wasn't enough after streaming for 2 years

Like others have mentioned, it's pretty competitive and saturated though the monetization requirements for YouTube are a little easier.
One marketing tool that a lot of YouTubers don't use is TikTok, srs. Posting short entertaining clips of your videos will help you build an audience then you can link your YouTube channel for people that want to see more of your content.
It won't guarantee growth, but it will help you reach a wider audience.

Ofc it all depends how much editing you want which according to the example channels, barely any. You're basically doing slightly more than your competitors and gradually shifting the balance and momentum in an attempt to slowly "hijack an audience" into a shinier home. Ofc people are stubborn which is why you hold your foot in the door announce you're there to give yourself more coverage. note: nothing these channels do is hard. editing is less than one minute and then you're uploading.I 100% guarantee you’ll earn more money easier working a minimum wage job

Now you can put that time into something else and honestly you'll enjoy time spent gaming a lot more.

Bro my cousin's husband (well they're actually divorcing now after 10 years married with 2 kids) took over his dad's business after he died, and started making youtube videos of the process. He's extremely artsy and made every video like some sort of mini project with voice overs and made it a story.
He has close to 2 million subscribers now and a couple years ago even he was saying he was making 10-20k profit a month from views and sponsorships on youtube which was more than his business lmao. Chicks were sending him letters and stuff they made for him, he has loyal followers and started a patreon for the loyal followers and made more money off that.
It's incredible what you can make from creating content or entertainment from your own home. I think this is where your "passion" or niche in life shines through. People pick up on people being passionate about stuff and live vicariously through that a lot. Look at that autistic nerd on instagram that gained fame overnight from posting his goofy face and reactions to trains in the UK and absolutely blowing his load over random types of trains. People loved it simply because he showed unrivaled joy in something he loved even if we think it's completely retarded.
It definitely takes time though, but can pay off in the end.

If it was as lucrative as they want you to think it is, lots of chinese companies would already be capitalizing on it.
there would be multiple companies doing it.

Boyos, I created a YT channel and will now start to upload gaming videos at least once a day for the remainder of August. We are on day 2, so there're 2 uploads currently. Can I cover at least a fraction of what our non-comm gameplay overloads have done over the years in the month of August.
