Brits went and fought an entirely different race. Not only did they fought a different race, they 3rd partied the Natives. That's why the US and the Brits are literal jokes of the world. not really the case for natives. They were wholly nomadic and didn't have a concept of "owning land" When they did fight one another it was due to scarcity of resources (during winter months)

You need to read some history books. The natives were brutal and some tribes would travel extremely long distances to rape, torture, and kill. They were absolutely territorial.

Your understanding of native American's is very much the hollywood version of a bunch of nature loving hippies peacefully coexisting until whitey came over and fugged everything up. The reality is they were incredibly brutal and violent.

They raided. They raped. They pillaged. They looted and stole. They raped. They took prisoners and tortured them to death for sport. They took slaves. And they kidnapped. If the children they kidnapped cried too much or were too weak they'd bash their head in and discard them.

Some tribes were more peaceful and friendly then others. But it was typically because they were weaker. When Europeans arrived tribes that were weak were friendly to the newcomers and aligned with them to have the Europeans kill their rivals.


You're right they did not have a concept of owning land. But they did have concepts of owning slaves, horses, weapons, possessions, and racking up high kill counts for respect/clout. And while an individual did not own land. Tribes certainly claimed lands as their own and slaughtered anyone who encroached on it.


Most people have a hollywood idea of what natives were like. But this idea typically skips over the travesties the natives inflicted on each other and on peaceful European settlers. There are plenty of firsthand accounts from Europeans that lived among/with natives. As well as accounts from those that were captured as children and lived as captives among them for years before being rescued.


Europeans didn't get the idea to intentionally try to genocide the natives until they realized it was a 'them or us' scenario. Initially, Europeans tried to peacefully coexist. Especially religious families that only wanted a place to live/farm/raise their kids.
