Our planet is likely struck more often than we acknowledge, and it's only a matter of time (on the scale of thousands of years) before we are struck again. Everything we do is child's play to what nature will do again, and again, and again.
The other issue is that even if the US drops to zero emissions, we change nothing because china and india are still pumping fossil fuels into the atmosphere. We can't cripple our own economy and not lead to any measurable environmental impact. The other issue is that those who believe climate change is the main issue are also the ones that fail to acknowledge what it would mean to not use fossil fuels... they don't want the US digging for lithium and other items needed for "clean" energy. So we buy it from China who is abusing the environment and human rights all over the world?
That's not to say we shouldn't be moving toward cleaner energy. I think we can all agree on that. But we need to have a reasonable phase out period, we need to be able to utilize our own natural resources, we cannot bankrupt ourselves while enriching china and others, and we need to hold other nations accountable (the real offenders).

Climate Change - We are arguably in the latter half of an interglacial period that exists between the last ice age and the next one. The Eemian, the previous interglacial period that ended ~115,000 years ago was much warmer than it is today (even up in Greenland). We are due to get warmer too. That's part of the Earth's natural freeze-thaw cycle.
Climate Change cheerleaders also think the melting glaciers in places like the Alps and Cascades are proof we are destroying the world. They melted out a long time ago and came back during the last mini Ice Age a few hundred years ago.
Humans may be exasterbating the natural process but we're certainly not the main driver.
With Climate Change, there is also the concern that special interests are manipulating "The Science" the same way they did with COVID. And this is especially important when it comes to "scientific data" being used for climate change fear campaigns directed at the public. People won't learn though, hence the concern in this thread.
COVID - it's hilarious you put so much faith in the government acting solely on good intentions. I guess that's why they needed anti-wrong think protections on social media and telling people they can't catch or spread COVID if they're vaccinated (which was false).
Money makes the world go round, Big Pharma is Washington's biggest lobbyist group. There is a revolving door between the FDA and Big Pharma. It would be naive to assume there wasn't any ill-intent going through the minds in Washington.
Thanks for participating in this thread, I always enjoy when new government/MSM speskerboxes come out of the wood work to regurgitate propaganda on the Misc.

Gee, I wonder why climate scientists didn't think to control for the natural cycling of the planet. I'm sure they never thought about your brilliant realization that the earth goes through natural cycles. If only PHD trained scientists would have known to control for such an obvious confounder to their hypotheses. Oh wait, they definitely do. There remains a significant balance of CO2 that the natural cycles do not account for, meshing nicely with the rise in industrialization across the world. Pointing out that the earth goes through natural cycles does not invalidate anthropogenic climate change.
You mention this "concern" about special interests manipulating the science, where is the evidence of that? We have actual evidence of players like Exxon knowing about their effect on greenhouse gases dating all the way back to the 70/80s and a subsequent pouring of special interest money into creating doubt about their effect on climate change.
Holding public health officials for being incorrect with the benefit of hindsight is wild. They were acting with the data they had in the moment, which was rapidly changing with the stakes of thousands of people dying daily. If there is tangible evidence that the CDC participated in some "noble lie" at the behest of their political bosses to try to get more people vaccinated regardless, by all means provide that. If it does exist, I will condemn it. I don't want to be intentionally misled by the government, but I also don't expect them to have perfect foresight when they make recommendations during a public health emergency.
Big Pharma is definitely not the biggest lobbying group, the chamber of commerce and the national association of realtors is, but I wont be pedantic, they are a large one. Why don't you use your energy that hates big pharma to apply more broadly to all large corporate cartels? It's naive of you to think there isn't ill-intent in the form of money in politics going on in all sectors, not just Big pharma. You won't catch me schilling for big pharma either, I think having a short-term profit incentive in the field of healthcare is perverse.
Thank you for your dismissive sign off about propaganda, again missing its effects on yourself.

On a side note, the freeze-thaw cycles that Earth experiences are cyclical and have been occurring on similar intervals for the last few million years and not necessarily due to catastrophic events.
The meteor impact cause for the Younger Dryas is up for debate, but the Younger Dryas cooling period, along with other brief cooling periods, happened after the Earth started to warm back up after the last ice age ended.

In nature, what has to happen to the runt of the litter in order to ensure the continuation of the strong bloodline? Why attempt to wake them up or change them when you can simply allow nature to take its course?

Also, he also didn't just roll over for Hilary, he made it as far as he did in spite of the Democratic party trying to hamstring him every step of the way for their chosen candidate.

"Oh my god look at the melting!!"
It becomes political when they start leaving facts like that out and mislead the public.
Do you believe science is free of political influence? Do you believe that donors can influence the results of scientific inquiries?
You mention that Big Oil influenced the science, do you believe Big Pharma, Big Tech, or the Gov are capable of doing the same for political reasons? Do you think there is a barrier in corporate activity or human nature that confines historically bad behavior to certain industries?
Why aren't climate change activists and organizations focusing on heavily industrialized nations like China and India instead of trying to rebrand the West in a Green facade?
Are you familiar with the World Economic Forum?
You say that the National Association of Realtors and American Chamber of Commerce are the biggest lobbyist groups in Washington, I see them at the top of the top 10 the list for 2022.
Did you look at the rest of the list? I also see Big Pharma (PRMA, AHA, BCBS, AMA) in the top 10, whose collective lobbyist dollars puts them over the top of what you listed.

Of course they are capable of doing the same, but I'm far more wary about Big Tech and Big Pharma steering the interests of the government to do their bidding, rather than the government itself having some ulterior motives. No, I believe that people respond to incentives, the easiest one being money, so that should be kept as far away from politics as possible. Limits on government power are appropriate and transparency is key.
I don't have any evidence to suggest that climate change activism is not also happening in those countries, that seems like a US-centric bias. We could wag the finger at China and India, but that would also mean asking them to not take the same advantages of cheap, dirty energy that the rest of the West got to do through time. It feels hypocritical to deny those countries several generations of economic growth just because the West used up all the available carbon capacity before they did. If we were being ruthlessly utilitarian, sure I guess we could sanction them or bomb their coal plants, but that seems more than a little psychotic at this stage.
It is certainly appropriate to be calling for a shift in the already well-developed countries first to lead by example. Have them identify the best ways they can to mitigate the most damaging effects as is practical and eventually share their better technologies or even the energy itself with those countries to lessen their impact faster. Cooperation, not geopolitical posturing.
I've heard of the WEF and have put them in the same bucket as the UN - virtually powerless to influence any US decision-making. Are you going to sell me on some globalist conspiracy with zero evidence? Even so, if it comes out that rich people and corps are doing things that stack the deck in their favor and they're using governments to do it, SHOCKER.
If we're going to aggregate lobbying efforts by disparate entities, then we need a whole lot more under the Chamber of Commerce.
Are you going somewhere with this line of questioning? Because I find myself doing alot more supporting of my positions than you seem to be doing. Just by virtue of being here, putting thought into defending my positions should mean that not all leftists are just "regurgitating MSM biased talking points" Where have you heard any of the things that I am saying on some news segment?

Sounds like you need to catch up on the WEF. The evidence is on their website, in their publications, in books written by their chairman, and in their publicly available conferences.
Have you heard of the Davos/Bilderberger events and the people who attend those meetings?
It's no longer merely a conspiracy.

All the more reason to support measures that empower common people. That does not comport with voting for the GOP especially - the party that aligns itself almost exclusively with the interests of big business and the rich. To be fair, the Dems are just diet-GOP, and that's why libs are silly too.

Most reps are also establishment shills. Hence why a nonestablishment candidate is our only hope. And that’s why all forces align to wipe out all nonestablishment candidates.

However, Trump is not enough of an outsider. He runs in these circles of power and he’s a fking billionaire. He does not care about normal people, and his track record was more than enough to prove that. It’s funny but sad watching him harness more power convincing conservatives that he’s some sort of genuine populist that has their interests in mind. He’s only ever had his own, as is apparent by his inability to take a loss in a system favoring conservatives.
Biden is only preferable because his party’s politics are slightly more tolerable to me. He’s also terrible because he’s a bought and paid for neoliberal who they know won’t make any actual changes.

If we’re agreeing that both parties are bought and paid for corporate interest and that’s a huge problem, we have a lot more in common than not.

Do you believe he has a profound effect on Washington in that Washington will go so far as to engage in clear abuses of power to hinder him?

Tbh your second question is kind of poorly worded and I’m not sure exactly what you mean. If you’re asking if the state is out to get him, I’ll ask you to name on what specifically?
