That's troubling. Something often brought up is that blue run cities like Seattle have a tough time hiring police officers. Few people want to be a police officer in a blue run city where politicians demonize, attack, defund the police. So the quality of people hired in these cities is low.

If he was laughing about the girl getting steamrolled by the other cop, whatever. I've been in a lot of trauma/****ed scenarios and sometimes we do humor our way through it. Usually not with kids, just aduts.
Second thing: wenever, everlet outsiders hear it. As RN's/MD's we don't even let the phlebotomist or xray techs or whatever hear our dark humor. We know they don't get it. If you haven't held a dead child in your arms while trying to save it while the parents rip and claw at you beging to save them... you don't have the dark trauma/humor that people who do have. So you won't laugh and you'll think we're monsters. Understandable.
One time as I was leaving shift while a code blue had just rolled in I said to a coworker "glad I'm getting out of here haha, what a way to start your shift." and she laughed and I bounced. A ****ing janitor saw the interaction and saw us laugh and thought we were mocking the dead person we had just actively been doing CPR on. told her boss, company wide email went out about how everyone is always watching and we shouldn't joke about dead people and how bad of an example we were etc. and all we did was chuckle about how the shift was starting with a bang. not even in the patients room. god I'm still mad about that.
So either way this cop is cooked and f'ed up. Suspend him for a month without pay, take sensitivity training, probationary comeback to work, no precepting new cops, etc. for like 6-12 months and then bring him back. He'll be a good steward for newer guys on how not to **** up.

If he was laughing about the girl getting steamrolled by the other cop, whatever. I've been in a lot of trauma/****ed scenarios and sometimes we do humor our way through it. Usually not with kids, just aduts.
Second thing: wenever, everlet outsiders hear it. As RN's/MD's we don't even let the phlebotomist or xray techs or whatever hear our dark humor. We know they don't get it. If you haven't held a dead child in your arms while trying to save it while the parents rip and claw at you beging to save them... you don't have the dark trauma/humor that people who do have. So you won't laugh and you'll think we're monsters. Understandable.
One time as I was leaving shift while a code blue had just rolled in I said to a coworker "glad I'm getting out of here haha, what a way to start your shift." and she laughed and I bounced. A ****ing janitor saw the interaction and saw us laugh and thought we were mocking the dead person we had just actively been doing CPR on. told her boss, company wide email went out about how everyone is always watching and we shouldn't joke about dead people and how bad of an example we were etc. and all we did was chuckle about how the shift was starting with a bang. not even in the patients room. god I'm still mad about that.
So either way this cop is cooked and f'ed up. Suspend him for a month without pay, take sensitivity training, probationary comeback to work, no precepting new cops, etc. for like 6-12 months and then bring him back. He'll be a good steward for newer guys on how not to **** up.
Just looked at the midnight crew, and was like, "Sounds pretty crazy out there guys, oh well, I'm going home."
