What's your 1 RM on seated barbell shoulder press?

Rarely see people doing this exercise so kinda hard to know what's a good number to shoot for.

What's your 1 RM on this?

Never tried a 1 rep max, but in my experience i can lift about 10-15% more on seated shoulder press when compared to standing OHP, so maybe shoot for something like that (i.e 110-115% of your OHP)?

Sounds reasonable.

I was doing this and flat bench as main pressing movements when I was last lifting in 2021. I was repping (5-8 reps) 185 in seated OHP when I coming up on a 3 plate bench (240x8, 275x3, had worked through the program with an *expected* 320 bench).

Nice.

Noticed any decent shoulder gains from seated bb shoulder press?

Not sure, I'll attempt it next time I do shoulders. Been only doing push press for several years now.

Actually a good idea to go for a heavy single every now and then if you are training for strength. Important to hit your lifts in that 85~90% range occasionally for strength gains as far as I know.

Yeah, it definitely hit shoulders differently aside from making it easier to add weight. Thinking back, TappingTheZen's 10-15% estimate does sound about right - I probably would've repped something like 160 for standing OHP in that shape.

I wasnt too thoughtful/deliberate in programming it - basement ceiling just wasn't high enough for standing - but it did really hit differently. AlphaDestiny had a good video on seated OHP since then that made me think I should revisit it if/when I get back to lifting.

1) I have never even attempted a 1RM shoulder press

2) Not sure exactly what it would prove

3) Sounds like a shoulder injury waiting to happen

4) I could fk you whole day up with 30lb dumbbells

Training for strength is fun brah. Gets boring to only train for hypertrophy.

Depends on the rack. Some racks are fukking horrible and put your shoulders at risk because the hooks to unpack the bar are way too fat behind the head. My current gyms rack is perfect. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

I powerlifted in HS through college and competed at least a couple times a year so I am no stranger to that type of training... IDK... I mean to each their own I suppose... but once I decided to start training for size over strength I found my lane and I stay in it.

I used to be pretty big into that lift. I did 225x5 and then did 250 for a single. Was around 10 years ago.
