You know you've matured as a lifter when you stop giving a fuk about how much weight you lift and you focus on looking good and being healthy. Obviously pushing higher weights and continuing progressive overload is important, but if you care about what the number is relative to other people then you are still young.

every non autist gets there because repetitively picking up stuff gets gawd awful boring. many people eventually transition into physical activities they enjoy more...maybe some casual lifting here and there.

That's why you're supposed to go there with a goal, otherwise you're just wasting time and hogging up the equipment.

and if the goal is to just maintain natural levels of strength, flexibility and joint health...is that a good enough goal?

Actually, I stopped caring about this a while ago

The reality is, if you want to lift more weight, you can just get fatter and/or take steroids. You can also do stupid chit like bouncing the bar on bench, wearing knee/elbow wraps, etc.

I cared alot about this stuff when I was younger but then realised I’m not willing to do the chit that’s required to maximise how much weight I can lift. At 6’2 I’m not going to be benching 405 while weighing 190 as a natty lifter

generations ago lifting weights wasn't even a thing and people survived just fine. now that we mostly live in the digital world people are searching for ways to artificially prove they are a man. if i can lift x surely i'll be considered manly lol

Because that’s pretty much the upper echelon of what you can achieve as a natty while staying around 10% bodyfat

don't worry body dysmorphia is common round these parts. healthy weights start around 235 and jacked.

If I'm seven sets into a workout, and you're STILL on the piece of equipment I saw you on when I first started, then what the **** are you doing at the gym other than wasting time?

And since you're so empathetic, you're probably that guy....

people that are "serious" and not serious can waste time on equipment. how many times do we see influencers standing in front of equipment fiddling with recording themselves and taking selfies? or a bunch of meat head bros chatting it up while lift together? some people want to do their "casual" lifting for health/maintenance and get out in under 30 min. if you go to a gym open to the public you just accept all different kinds of people will be there

I mean, caring about personal progress is healthy, no?

If you set a lifelong bench PR why isn't that a nice thing? Even if someone on a forum starts screeching "anything less than 3 plates is what I could do when I was 15 lmao" - let them lol.

Personal progress is a great motivator srs.

If you're going to waste time and lift like an unfocused bitch, then go to PF, Blast, or Crunch.

Try a neutral grip, it allows you really pull up big weight, I also find it easier to track progress as it feels more natural when getting the chin directly over the bar.

That's the point of life itself.

Hell, I hate cardio, so what I try to do, is beat my previous session.

But you have these bottom feeders making excuses, for these bitches who are on their phone, or just sitting on a piece of equipment for 30 minutes, with this lost, bored look on their face, where they do a half assed set once every five to ten minutes......

But it is awesome, let's say the leg press machine for example, when they're done with a final set, they start to strip the plates, and you tell them it's all good, and start adding a few more 45lb plates for your warm up.

Yeah I have a swimming thread that I bump from time to time. My first 1km was something like 58 minutes (lol, I hadn't been swimming in over 25 years) and my last one was 29. And I bet I can get it to sub 20 with more practice.

Inafter progressive overload lifting is a waste of life, lol.

Honestly, if you're 30+ and still care about this stuff.... son.
If you really do it and care about what others are thinking then you are a tool. You do any type of physical activity to challenge and conquer yourself thags the paradox of it. That's what it's about. Improving, growth, kicking your own azz in the gym

gains...you're a "pussy" if you don't see them...see, men from generations before wouldn't equate any sort of manhood with musculature artificially created in a gym. And mostly for the purpose of vanity at that. Vanity to that degree = feminism. It would've been considered more akin to homosexuality than masculinity.

those with chit to sell or market (gyms memberships, equipment, supps, clothes, videos, training styles, etc) were really on to something when they decided making men as vain as women would be a huge money maker.
