Why is it: that any job becomes so much better once you don’t need it
Like, it’s the exact same job
The same people
The same surroundings (on days you’re in the office)
The same work
The same committees, clients, deadlines
But somehow, the minute you go from being financially dependent on the company, to not caring (or even slightly hoping) that you get made redundant
Everything just becomes so much more relaxed
Completely illogical yet also completely true

This is why I’m in favour of some chit like UBI or something that covers your basic living requirements, i.e. food & shelter.
The work place is largely ass because people depend on their jobs to survive and will put up with all sorts of ridiculous crap as a result which eventually turns them into kunts, and this creates these commonplace toxic work cultures and so on.

Because when you depend on the job to survive, those are the chains that bind you as a wageslave
When you don’t depend on it, there are no more chains and you’re not a slave anymore

I actually heard that in some third world countries, your health insurance is linked to your employment status! Imagine giving your employer that kind of control over your life.

The moment Abraham Lincoln killed the owners and gave you your freedom, you’d be gooooooooooonnnneeee
Now modern day workcelling isn’t quite so bad
But, you could have the exact same job, and it suddenly becomes more palatable once you don’t need it anymore
There must be a switch that flips in your head or something

Because it sucks balls being financially dependant
I only really became financially dependant when I bought my condo
I had to put down all my savings for the down payment..
Now that I got the condo I've been trying to stack and building security but its been bill after bill for the most part so far

That's what I love about the US. You can demand whatever you want, and if you have the skillset they will give it to you.
BTW, companies usually pay your health insurance as a perk, but you can always go get your own. So no, it's not tied to your employer. If you're poor you can get subsidized healthcare as well, if you're old you can get subsidized healthcare even if you aren't poor.
What does a kilo of bananas cost in AU?

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

That is probably part of the explanation, but wouldn’t account for all of it
Maybe it’s something to do with the fact that, even though you have exactly the same probability of [making a mistake, pissing off a client, pissing off your boss] it no longer has any consequences. So stress level goes to zero. Idk.

Right now i could comfortably retire , mortgage paid off, no debts, plenty in the bank and if i took my pension now i could live just fine
so why stay at work?
Well i do about 5-10 hours a week max, i like the people i work with, the work i do is interesting and im stacking cash that i dont actually need right now for the future when who knows what may happen......in reality i feel like i am already semi retired... i could do this for years without issue
but the fact that i DONT have to work completely changes your mindset....if anything changed for the worse i would just say FCK your Job and leave ................feelz good

But yea, there's a reason I said "some chit LIKE UBI", because UBI may not be quite the right solution. My point was moreso the introduction of a system (UBI or something else) where our basic living requirements, i.e. food and shelter, are a basic human right.

I always make it a point to always put money aside in case I want to quit my job and to not be dependent on it, that way, the power is always on my side with talking to managers / clients.

Because it becomes a choice and not a necessity. Did you choose the job or were you forced to because of X reason. If I didn't want to work I wouldn't have to. Because of that I know I can walk away any time and so I choose to keep doing it.

Knowing that you can survive a couple of years without going into debt, your 401k, or selling anything, brings a peace of mind. This is multiplied if youknowthat you'll be able to find another job within the a few months after a job loss. You login to work, or commute to the office, and you're not embraced by a feeling of "I need to kiss arse, work extra hard, and do everything right, just so I'm not next, just so I can survive."
It is equivalent to a hefty weight lifted off your shoulder.
If you ask someone "how much money do you need to have 'phark you' money?" their answer is usually in the multi-millions.
But I think there's multiple levels...
Level 0 - Phark Me Money - In debt, pay check to pay check, very little or even negative net worth, higher CoL:income ratio, maybe due to where you live, dependents, or medical bills. Career / industry is shaky. You need your job.
Level 1 - Phark It Money - Little to no debt, can survive 6+ months just from liquid (savings, non-retirement investments). Probably $100k+ net worth. Career / industry is booming. You don't need your job, but you likely want it, as you will eventually need another if chit hits the fan.
Level 2 - Phark You Money - Negligible or zero debt, enough in non-retirement investments to bring you your CoL on its own (assuming 6% return or so), probably lower CoL since you might even own outright your living situation (no mortgage/rent). Probably $750k+ net worth. You don't need your job at all.
Level 3 - Phark Everything Money - Negligible or zero debt, can essentially retire tomorrow. Probably $3m+ net worth. Why even work anymore?

I've never been in this situation but I assume this will happen before I retire.
I guess the only exception was when I was heading out on maternity leave, so I knew there was an end in sight for a long break.

When does this happen and how do you reach that point? Is it after you have a big savings? Unless you got $500k+ in the bank and very cheap living expenses, I don't you can truly NOT care.
