The $80 CSP I sold is about 50% profit. Unsure if I will cover so I can do something else or maybe wait till closer to 70% gain.

Thoughts on MSFT???

Who thinks they've topped out? Or still room for more upside short term?

Been in it for a while and I've liquidated about 80% of my position...Really close to selling the rest

Thinking of moving to another brokerage, anyone have suggestions for something as simple as Ameritrade?
Even think or swim is too cluttered and is missing things, for example I can't view the total profit from my covered call in case I want to close it early.

Schwab still my favorite but I use the computer to trade mostly, I did notice their app is pretty bad now somehow it used to be better

You can always call schwab and get someone on the phone within 2 mins or less, this is the #1 reason I use them still

I’ve come to terms I don’t understand this market or how most individual companies trade. I’ve got a few positions I haven’t moved, but everything new being added has primarily gone into bonds. Since the 20+ yields are below 5% I’ll hold off or keep adding to SGOV till they pop back.

Only thing other than selling options I’ve consistently done is buying fnma which I’ve added small amounts weekly to start a common share position.

Fortunately had losses last year… LOL. Yeah losses carry over, but you can’t deduct more than a net -$3,000 from overall income from investments. So if you carried -$100k losses from last year and made $105k this year you could use all and only pay $5k in gains. But if you only made 95k then you could deduct $98k and roll the other 2k in losses for 2024

Yeah company fundamentals and fair value relative to those fundamentals are the only truth, then its strategy and mindset because nobody has any idea what stock prices might do.

Hence why I was taking shots at dude back in July spouting off about buying PayPal at a price 25% higher than it is today, not because I have any clue whether it will go up or down but because the strategy is fundamentally flawed and more akin to gambling than investing. Making moves is pretty easy, sitting still is what’s difficult.

Yeah. I mean I can’t believe my individual holdings all got shat on in the past couple weeks which is annoying. Egy announced they’ve got $100m in the bank with 18m in receivables and they got dumpstered on earnings pushing market cap to nearly $400m. Payo and sofi both posted solid numbers and raised guidance and both again got hammered. I understand sofi isn’t yet profitable(q4 hopefully) but Payo too went ahead and went red too. It’s not even that my specific holdings are red but other than tlt EVERYTHING on my watchlist is red. And yet markets are just barely down overall. I realize this when you should buy and I did buy some long dated EGY calls and might execute my $4 CSP in January depending on what it looks like but how silly.

Also, I did go ahead and sell 2 TLT CCs at $91 for $1.50 for Dec. This covers roughly half the position and if it gets close to ITM I’ll cover the other half. I’m good either way. I’m pretty surprised I’m green on this position already but adding more as it dropped really helped when I started buying at $93

Still holding roughly 2000 shares. It’s fine. Thankfully I covered my CSP. I’ll write some $6 here shortly I imagine. They keep boosting revs and diversifying away from student loans while getting closer and closer to profitability. I see a lot of opportunity for growth in profitability and a lack of overhang from bond performance that plagues their competitors.

Small caps generally are getting hammered for whatever reason.

Low liquidity, low volume, just take a look at the order book, usually huge spread on bid/ask some noobs do market orders after hours and get rekt it’s hilarious

Sht will hit the fan on Monday?

Moody’s cuts U.S. outlook to negative, citing deficits and political polarization

Moody’s Investors Service lowered its ratings outlook on the United States’ government to negative from stable, pointing to rising risks to the nation’s fiscal strength.

The ratings agency has affirmed the long-term issuer and senior unsecured ratings of the U.S. at Aaa.

Moody’s move to cut its outlook arrives as Congress faces the looming threat of a government shutdown once more. The government is funded through next Friday.

Newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson said he plans to release a Republican government funding plan on Saturday.

My small cap isn't doing so well. I imagine that's due to interest rates more than anything?

question for all the TA guys. do you draw lines when looking at your own trades? Or can you eyeball the chart and know the levels without using lines?

I know people show the lines on social media but that is used to show other people the levels.

schwab sucks, etrade sucks, not quite sure where to move.
Is now the time to say I told you so on ZIM?Srsly though, GL. I think it will hit 6.50.

Re: stop loss. You should know that your order is filled as 'market order' when your stop loss is hit. Not the same as stop limit which is filled at your limit price (but not guaranteed to fill). So if liquidity is low or spread is wide, or when price action moves but contract price stagnates your contract will not fill at the best price.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac just got their interest decided for damages which is awesome. Fannie pref holders getting like $280m + almost 200m in interest. I’m sure it’ll be appealed for awhile and lawyers will ofc take their cut, but it looks like the payment will come out to be about the same as a dividend payment which is roughly 1.5% of face value. I bought around 5-6% face value so I’m hoping I’ll get about 25-30% of purchase price back ayy lmfao.

Not much progress in the way of getting them out from their conservatorship though. Sounds like there might be more coming on that around 12/7 there is some public announcements being made in regards to capital rules which could mean they’ll lower the threshold for tier1 capital requirements so they are not that of a bank. If that is the case both will be candidates for release far sooner than later as that is the primary roadblock is figuring out how to get them fully recapitalized before being released.
