Chit like this is why western society is on it's way down, only thing these big corporations care about anymore is how people look, to hell with qualifications or ability.

The chit thing is, for like an extra 2 billion a year you can put full control back into FAA's hands and pass the cost onto the airlines, since the business generates 155 billion a year.

Back in the day, CEOs of aviation companies were actually aviation qualified in some sense, now it's Harvard MBAs who only care about short term prices.
What makes you think a gov't organization can properly review their output? Like should someone at the FAA stand on the assembly line and make sure the employee torques the nuts enough?

There can be an effective middle ground between no oversight and what you're suggesting.

As usual with these things, it's turning out the quality control problems were an open secret for a while now.

Not to mention that over the years the FAA had agreed to less and less direct oversight of Boeing, and look where that ended up: Grounding of the flawed MAX 8 for a few years and now the MAX 9 debacle.

Not saying the FAA is doing a great job of things now, but it's clear that a company like Boeing with no domestic competition in the civil aviation market (that competition ended with the McDonnell-Douglas merger) needs government oversight. The alternative is bean counters putting profit and shareholder return and C-suite bonuses over safety.

Pretty amazing to me how an entire door section blew out at 16,000 feet and no one was sucked out or died of oxygen deficiency or from the cold.

Gives me a lot of pause about sleeping in the window seat with my head leaning on the window ever again.

Could have been a lot worse if the door blew out at 35,000 feet. Those passengers were lucky it happened at 16,000 feet.

Very true.

I always get a window seat because while I dislike flying, because I can look out the window and see things gives me some sort of comfort.

While I realize that the part of the plane that blew out was a door and not a window seat without a door? I have been in that exact seat many times.
