Some $180 AM5 Gigabyte board and 7800X3D. You can find it in my old mc thread from last week.

Think there's a $50 4TB HDD there I may have to see what that's all about, or get another SSD.

My computer guy tells me to stay away from ASUS still , well their MB in particular. He says their GPU’s are ok still .
He’s a big MSI fan , probably because he’s had very few issues with them . I know Gigabytes good .
It’s unfortunate because I really like the looks of the ASUS MB’s .
I was going to build my next computer with an AMD ryzen , but he claims Intel is still a better proc for gaming .
Your thoughts?

Honestly, I usually read up on the reviews, both text and video, but mine came in a bundle so there wasn't much choice. I don't care so much for looks and my old mb was Asus. Imo pick any board that has good reviews and fulfills your needs. As for the processor, both companies are slapping each other so either way you go you'll be fine. I prefer AMD because it's what I've used for half a decade now plus they're affordable and match Intel for less.

All of the motherboards are ok, unless you get a cpu that needs a better vrm or need some special features.

As someone who ran a 6800 on a dual boot system, I had nothing but problems with AMD in windows.

On linux it works fine. I'm all in on linux now, but I still run nvidia.

Microcenter is honestly amazing. Only reason I hate going there is cuz it's in Brooklyn and the train ride back is... ugh.

Yeah your PC is good brah so you can afford to wait. My R7 1700 was not cutting it though lmao. It all depends on the games you play. I like to do a bit of everything, FPS, MMO, large world sims like Star Citizen, so my enjoyment of these were down to where I didn't game as much cuz I couldn't get good frames and adequate graphics together, always had to sacrifice, and it sucked. So I wanted to give myself something I felt I deserved for a very long time. Luckily though even if you do decide to upgrade (granted price is right) you can always resale old parts/give to fam/friends.
