Lease renewal - wut do

I’m paying $1,256 base rent for my apartment. They want me to renew my lease at the same price.

I checked on their website and they’re offering the same floor plan I have for $1,024. And they’re offering the bigger floor plan for $1,100. Wtf?

I’m thinking I’ll ask them to lower my rent and if they won’t do that I’ll just ask to transfer to one of the other units they’re offering for cheaper.

yeah I'd definitely call them on that ****. You'd think new tenants would be paying more than existing ones but it sounds like they don't care about loyalty and keeping apartments occupied.

That's weird, usually they try to jack rent at least 25% at the end of the lease in hopes that you won't want to put the effort in to move and just roll over and take it.

The website might not be up to date. The one for my complex shows its managed by a company that doesnt manage it anymore.

Just ask them about the price difference.

Update - they offered to drop my rent from $1,256 to $1,156 and $500 off the first month of the new lease. Still not as good as what they’re offering for the other units but I might just take it.

I had like 5 different landlords in my renting days. Never met one who gave a single solitary chit about loyalty. I'd sign up at places for leases in the summers to get to the fall move-in day (usually around August 1st or so), and they were always busting your balls trying to make you commit to a fresh new 1-year least by Jan. 1 of the next year while reminding you they were putting it on the market for other renters. They always move on the first sign of money, period.

If they offered to move that much already, I'd call the bluff and tell them they should just be fair to you and give you the same lower price they'd give someone new. Tell them you want to transfer to a cheaper unit if they refuse. They'll do it to avoid losing a month or two of rent altogether.
