You can do that but only at locally owned repair shops, not dealerships. Years ago when I owned a Jetta I bough an aftermarket starter and fuel pump for the car when they needed to be replaced. Gave it to the mechanic, and he installed it only charging for the labor, and they worked for the remainder of the time I owned the car.

I can source all materials, tools, rentals, for about 6500 and that's buying a cut off saw because a rental was 1/3 ofb the entire cost of one. I'm going to do it myself.

Hell yea dude. If you're any kind of handy/have the ability (and the time) to do this type of stuff, it's the way to go. Watch some YouTube videos, look at some pics online for inspiration and get after it. It probably wont be perfect, but you'll learn a lot and you'll have the pride knowing you did it yourself. Not to mention save a ton of money.

My neighbor paid a contractor to build a cover for his back patio and told me he paid $10k....they did it in 3 days....he got 3 posts & a shingled roof (at way to low of a pitch for shingles by the way) that's about 12 x 16 for 10k.

Im in the process of building a cover for my side patio that's 16x25 and installing electrical/fan/lights, a built in outdoor kitchen with grill, prep space, mini fridge, a flat top griddle, and a bar on the backside with space for 4 barstools, a 50" TV & an open brick fireplace complete with chimney......and I'll be in it for about $6500-$7k (including buying the new grill, TV, flat top and fridge).......the downside is finding the time and I'm doing it all myself. A Contractor buddy of mine told me he'd probably charge between $18-$22k and could do it in 2 weekends.
