I place all drugs in 1 catogorie, I understand alcohol is more accepted but too much will turn anyone as incomprehensible/violent/belligerent as a homeless crack head that have taken over downtown here. They just have to drink "too much" once to enter this state for a few hours.

I am sure there are some benefits in drugs and cigarettes but the evil outweighs it...imho

this is not a moral stand, we are an anon board in the misc section. I posted a thread to get like-minded people together and maybe encourage anyone who wants to be 100% sober to do so.
Again, your argument is based around abuse, excess, addiction, etc. It goes without saying these are not good things.

I’d be more curious to hear why you believe zero is better than moderation.

The only argument I can think of is that moderation opens the door to excess, but obviously if that happens it signifies a change from moderation to excess, thus we are no longer talking about moderation.

moderation is ambiguous, and the step from moderation towards excess is blurred.

There is technically a moderate amount of meth someone can take.

Zero is absolute.

Moderate drinkers have 1.8-fold higher risks of oral cavity (excluding the lips) and pharynx (throat) cancers and 1.4-fold higher risks of larynx (voice box) cancers than non-drinkers

Again, you’re not saying anything here, other than avoiding giving a reason/rationale for why zero is preferential over being able to enjoy such things in moderation.

It’s cool if you don’t have any reasons and just “feel” zero is best, or something. I’d rather you be honest than skirt around the question like you continue to do.

I guess we should agree to disagree.

I believe the above reasoning is enough to justify zero intoxicants.

Whatever works for you OP.

I eat healthy 7 days a week, 2 meals per day inc 17 hour fast. Train 6 days per week with lifting, Muay Thai and BJJ. I do however enjoy 6 beer and a gram of pepsi once every 8-10 weeks.

I find people with such a staunch attitude towards completely abstaining usually are ones that suffer from addiction problems. It is possible to enjoy substances in moderation.

I hope I dont come off as staunch. Im just saying it feels good to not need or want to alter my mind ever. I have never been addicted to any drug.

I don't hold anything against anyone who wants to alter their state of mind if they dont affect other people, but thats rarely the case. Fighting, car crashes, domestic abuse, murder, rape are all increased when drugs and alcohol are involved.

Oxford definition of staunch:

very loyal and committed in attitude.

Staunch isexactlyhow you come across on this topic.

You’re obviously not keen on moderation, as such it’s hard to interpret your attitude as anything BUT puritanical or staunch.

sorry you feel that way.

I created a thread about this on misc to bring like-minded people together and to encourage anyone trying to quit.

I could argue that your repeated posts in this thread, discussing moderation and justifying the use of alcohol/narcotics, are more staunch.

Fill your boots! Feel free to make that argument, although you’ll only get agreement from me. I am being staunch.

And this is the difference between us: I am not confused/conflicted about the message I am putting out, whereas you definitely appear to be.

I personally dont drink or do any drugs due to religious beliefs, but itt seems majority of people facing substance abuse issues don't intentionally choose this path. It seems it often involves a gradual descent to a certain point until they start spiraling, or they may start drinking heavily when they first start, not thinking they can get hooked.

It's not uncommon for people to misjudge their alcohol intake and see it as moderate when it would fall into heavy drinking. stuff like social norms, personal habits, and alcohol tolerance can influence this.
Binge Drinking:
NIAAA defines binge drinking as a pattern of drinking alcohol that brings blood alcohol concentration (BAC) to 0.08 percent - or 0.08 grams of alcohol per deciliter - or higher. For a typical adult, this pattern corresponds to consuming 5 or more drinks (male), or 4 or more drinks (female), in about 2 hours.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), which conducts the annual National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), defines binge drinking as 5 or more alcoholic drinks for males or 4 or more alcoholic drinks for females on the same occasion (i.e., at the same time or within a couple of hours of each other) on at least 1 day in the past month.
Heavy Alcohol Use:
NIAAA defines heavy drinking as follows:
For men, consuming five or more drinks on any day or 15 or more per week
For women, consuming four or more on any day or 8 or more drinks per week
SAMHSA defines heavy alcohol use as binge drinking on 5 or more days in the past month
https://www.niaaa.nih.gov/alcohol-he...binge-drinking

Any even moderate drinking has health risks:
Moderate drinkers have 1.8-fold higher risks of oral cavity (excluding the lips) and pharynx (throat) cancers and 1.4-fold higher risks of larynx (voice box) cancers than non-drinkers, and heavy drinkers have 5-fold higher risks of oral cavity and pharynx cancers and 2.6-fold higher risks of larynx cancers (4, 9).

Eso****eal cancer: Alcohol consumption at any level is associated with an increased risk of a type of eso****eal cancer called eso****eal squamous cell carcinoma. The risks, compared with no alcohol consumption, range from 1.3-fold higher for light drinking to nearly 5-fold higher for heavy drinking (4, 9)
