Loved anime from back in the day, but there is seemingly a massive dearth of more adult/mature themed anime nowadays. Why is that?

Same reason life's nothing like the 90's/00's anymore, anything re-mastered is censored, and off-agenda self-expression is suppressed. Anime has definitely taken a nosedive and if it was up to me, I'd watch the old stuff, but I figured since my hiatus I see what modernity has to offer.
