Please don't use false grip (suicide grip) while benching...

Many know what this is...

A guy in my city was training at a gym on Monday (not ours), unracked 315 using false grip, the bar rolled out of his hands, crushed his trachea and severed spine...died almost instantly. Be smart and use regular grip; this chit is dangerous!

Suicide grip is an evolutionary culling, anyone dumb enough to do it should continue.

Also with bars at the gym already bent, it's pure suicide... hence the name.

Can someone explain why people even use it?

Dude, I watched a guy do this with 633 multiply in a meet (they no longer allow it) and I was shocked he didn't die.

SO fuked up...

The natural position to press something is having your wrists at an angle...you can see this when people do DB work. So people figured outthat you can tuck your elbows and incorporate more tricep in the press attempting to make it easier. Unfortunately you can die doing it...

Use it for OHP movements and admittedly sometimes for light drop sets on bench.

I've seen it at a couple meets and it boggles my mind. Usually it's gym bros but these guys competing really should know better... especially fking equipped guys, my gawd they spend so much time perfecting the craft of benching in a shirt but can't even grip the bar the right way? dafuq. Glad it's banned now, they should really just ban it all together

i use thumbless grip on some pushing exercises like machine incline hammer press cuz it helps push w/ your chest

I'd never try it with 3 plates on a bar though, lol.

fking lmao at that drawing but it's true

One of the best ways it was explained to me is that if you're going to punch someone, what position is your wrist going to be in?
-your wrist is going to be straight as that generates the most power and stability
-your wrist is NOT going to be bent upwards and striking with your palm

That little tip right there really made me sort of think differently about how bench pressing is actually performed. It really is just contracting your muscles and punching directly to the ceiling.

It seems like the natural thing for the weight to do with your thumbs tucked like that. That's some arrogant chit...gotta respect the weight at all times.

And less force is produced if grip isn't clenched, squeezing bar as hard as you can activates your triceps and all pushing muscles.

That's why I switched to mix grip on the bench.

Works for deadlifts.
