Woman left with life-threatening heart condition after parents chose prayer > doctors

Now she wants them prosecuted

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...-a7766741.html
A woman whose life is threatened by heart and lung complications was left permanently disabled after her parents rejected medical treatment and prayed for her recovery instead.

Mariah Walton was born with a small hole in her heart, which could have been repaired in early life, but is now in and out of hospital for her condition, which has become life-threatening.

The 21-year-old and her siblings, from the US state of Idaho, are now campaigning for a change in the law so parents such as theirs who choose to follow “faith healing” can be prosecuted.
“My lungs burn because I can’t get the oxygen I need,” she told local news channel KTVB. “They used to pray over me. The’d say: ‘God’s going to heal you, just have faith’ and all kinds of stuff… I think it’s time to prosecute them”

Ms Walton, who has nine siblings in total, was raised in the Mormon church. She was diagnosed with congenital heart disease aged 18.

Her sister Emily told the broadcaster their parents would tell the children “we needed to pray for Mariah, that she wasn’t growing or doing well, and the evil spirits would leave her”.

Mariah’s mother said she used natural remedies such as herbs and essential oils as well as prayer.
Sad, how many lives must be ruined before religitards realize nobody is listening to their prayers?

Lol prayer is answered by the procedure working.

Prayer is answered by a competent doctor performing operation.

Prayer instead doing what's right is not prayer, if you understand.prayer is doing what's right. Comprehend that.

Fuk this world. Born too early. We're at a weird transitional point where we are tethered to the past but trying to move forward and break free.

That mirrors my thinking.

I believe there is a supernatural realm and a natural realm, and they are bonded through consciousness. (And powered by a supreme consciousness.)

I think that the kind of prayer that is commonly referred to works on the level of consciousness/the spiritual realm, and it's effect on the physical realm are indirect.

So for illness it's best to work holistically, on the level of consciousness and biology.

IME most religious people (I have not come across one who is an exception) do not soley rely on intercessory prayer for illness, they respect/recognize that they exist as part of the natural world.

Those same parents do not sit down and pray to have their nutritional needs met, they eat and drink daily. But when it comes to physical illness, they have a double standard.

This isn't a problem with religion. It's a problem with retards in general. Well, Mormon retards. Their religion doesn't allow for some medical practices.

No where in the christian Bible does it say to avoid medical help for prayer. In fact. I will slap anybody who says they are relying on God himself for healing. Because who said that God didn't give us the medical science to heal ourselves?

Yes. I believe that prayer can heal. But God isn't a father who does everything for his kids. He is a father that wants us to work and provide for ourselves. People need to see this and realize this. If someone is offering you help, then take it. Thank them and God.
"Don't be envious when the grass is greener on the other side because you don't know how much crap it took to fertilize that ground.

Are you ready? "Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins. (John 8:24).

It would be interesting if children could routinely sue their parents for negligence in cases like this.

Not only would it address the obvious stuff it would also lead to fun stuff like manlets and Indians taking their parents to court.

So in other words god is useless and you actually have to do things yourself. That's the reality but most religious people obviously believe in everything from prayer to rituals, sometimes over action as we see here

Who said they weren't Christian? (Someone did single out a sect though, ie. Mormonism.)

People are saying that they applied prayer wrong. That isn't denying that they are members of the faith.

No that's not the definition of prayer. Doesn't God say "whatever you ask in my name you will receive in prayer if you have faith" ?

Here's several verses that I'm sure the parents held to- believing this stuff was true. If they JUST would have had more faith I'm sure their little girl would have been healed right?
I mean If you take other verses in the bible literally and believe it's the undefiled word of God then you have to take god at his word that he will heal if you have enough faith.

And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

23 on that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.
24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from at he Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

22 and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.

14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

Christians grasp at straws when they can see the holes in their logic but don't want to give it up completely and sound retarded.

They say "god answered the prayer by allowing the doctor to heal them..it's a muracle!!"

Or "god answered my prayer byNOTanswering it."

They will tell a cancer patient
"God will heal you in his own time" ....then when that person dies? They say."god healed them because they are no longer suffering anymore! They have a new body!"

What the actual fukc?!

Almost an MD now...medical research is always expanding. It's unethical to disrespect someones beliefs - they are entitled to what they want to do. If the child is in immediate danger however, we have to intervene through various means. The intellectual physician is always a student - medical literature is always changing. Our treatment protocols generally have more benefit than risk but that isn't the case. This is a large scale collaboration on medical data that is always expanding. What drugs to use, what treatments to use. For example, celoxicab was drug used for arthritis and the team involved in it's discovery became famous - years later it was removed for increased risk of MI. To say that science and medical literature are the end all be all isn't doing justice to science at all. The more understood ideology behind religious though as it relates to Medicine is that religious people believe that God created all of us, gave some of us the intellect and means to research and discover treatments and disease. Not to undermine medical science and doctors. Some of the most respectful patients are religious and highly thankful for a competent medical staff. They recognize the beauty and work that goes into research but attribute all ultimately to a creator. That doesn't change the fact that physicians are smarter or work harder etc. Just because some religious ideology my contradict evolution - doesn't mean that it undermines the natural sciences in their entirety. It may very well be that novel genetic research may contradict the origin of species. Some atheists fail to understand that concept. Some of the most intellectual scientists are/were extremely religious. Nothing in their doctrine says don't research its forbidden. These ideologies arise from low IQ people. Let them go about their business. Doesn't change anything anyway. All of us are going to be in the ground at some point.

God loves his children but he does punish those who have sinned.

The real tragedy in this is that a wayward heretic is questioning His Plan.
