I'm starting to believe protein intake is a myth

Doesn't make any fukin difference. I can feel the difference immediately when I eat carbs. The more carbs I eat, the better my life is. Better energy, better sleep, better mood, better lifts, better endurance. There's usually a 1 day lag period where the carbs I ate yesterday affect my performance today. When I eat healthy fats, I stay full for longer and have less inflammation.

But protein literally does nothing noticeable. It doesn't make me leaner, it doesn't make my lifts better, it doesn't help me recover any quicker, doesn't do much for my energy levels.

So if carbs and fats have a positive effect on my life and protein is doing so little in comparison, why am I wasting so many of my calories on it?

New macros are 60g fat, 400g carbs, 50g protein. We're always told high protein because of all of this research, but has anyone tried anything like this?

Because of school and career my diet has changed a lot, been intaking a significantly less protein than I used to. I have noticed no change in body composition or lifting strength.

IMO, I think it's a scam. I'm sure it probably effects you somewhat based on the amount, but I highly doubt its noticeable and, unless you're competing, is nothing to stress over.

I take no supplements now, just food.

I have found a moderate-protein, moderate-fat, high carb diet works best for me.

It's all about your body brah. Some people can't handle carbs and get fat just looking at a piece of bread.

The biggest thing I have noticed, is that quality is much more important than numbers.

There are chit carbs, chit proteins, and chit fats. Avoid them and you'll be fine.

Sub 100g of protein since half a year now. Skin glows, best gains ever, mood, digestion and libido improved and more stable energy throughout the day.

OP, I'd even go as far to say up your fats to 80-100 grams even and cycle your carbs according to your activity level.

Don't believe the hype.

Same. I don't think the body really cares what you put into it. It just cares how many calories you consume and how processed the food is. More processed = lower quality.

No, low fat. At the lowest I was probably at 40g fat, 200g carbs, 200g protein.

Thanks man. Just based on the anecdotal evidence in here I am going to give this a fair shot. I'm going to try cutting on a low protein diet.

Interdasting... I usually keep my carbs pretty high cause of my 2 a days routine + cardio

Protein is high cause of 1g = 1lb bodyweight

Dropped to 0.5g to 0.8g cause of schedule and haven't noticed a damn thing. If anything, I'm still improving. Was starting to wonder if anyone else experienced this.

I notice the skin gains too on high carb low fat. Fat is the one thing I think I have nailed down. I've gone super low, like 30-40g and felt hungry all the time. I've also gone up to 100+ and didn't see any additional benefits over 60-70g. I'm pretty sure sweet spot is around 60-70g.

Come on man, use some common sense. Lower it to 100g or something, no need to make drastic changes like that. Just because the protein requirements are overblown to fuk by the supplement industry and is perpetuated here doesn't mean you have to go to the other extreme.

I assume the effects of protein deficiency aren't acute and they'll creep up on you.

tl;dr: you're probably right but overreacting

Agree though going down to 50g is taking things too far. 100g protein is good for me

I'm an all or nothing kind of guy. How am I supposed to test how much protein I need if I don't go to an extreme? I did the same thing with fat. And I've done it with the high end of protein as well, eating 350g of protein a day. But I've never actually tested the low end of the protein spectrum because I was afraid I would lose all my gains.

it's hard to say, I'm starting to think you don't need as much protein either, not sure if I would go as low as 50 grams but I think a good safe amount is probably around half your weight in protein. not really sure though, and it would be hard to measure. i know studies recommend the minimum of around your weight in LBM.

Thanks for testing and sharing. Although I must say that it's very hard to stay under 50g of protons if you're at those carb and fat macros.

Odds are it's fake, so be careful when you listen to any answer he gives.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

IDK boyo. I lifted hard on Friday, went to an all you can eat meat buffet at Fogo de Chao, and recovered a day faster than I usually do. Dat protein definitely does something. Or maybe it is just extreme excess of calories? IDK...I read a study that said optimum protein intake is at most 0.8 g/ lb and that is if you are really lifting heavy. Rest of it is probably just used up for energy. Protein has other benefits like thermic effect of food, so if you are trying to cut cals, it is better to eat a higher protein diet.

It is not. I did water deplete and have a pump for it though.

I have given no advice in this thread, I'm simply questioning why I've been eating high protein for the past 11 years.
