Worst alcoholic you have seen and how did it impact their life?

In for stories.

Worst I personally witnessed was this welder who would keep Fireball underneath his truck seat. All day long he would be making trips to his truck and you would see him pull that bottle of 100 degree plus fireball, and just pull on it for 4-5 seconds, bottle it, and go back to work. Probably went through a bottle a day plus all the beer he drank.

Died at age 88 of undiagnosed lung cancer.

My grandpa, from 25-61 drank a 750ml of cheap whiskey everyday. Eventually died horribly at age 61 from liver cirrhosis. He had the pillow from the couch grafted to him as he never moved from that one spot for years, was found dead on that same couch.

Father in law died from it. He was a freaking mess. Good dude at heart. Nasty stuff to be addicted to.

Left a good job out of college for a job I thought I could leave my mark on. Small company, but didn't meet one of the partners, one of my bosses until about 2 weeks after I started. Turns out dude was a major alcoholic. He'd be wasted by noon. He was an old school salesman so it seemed par for the course. I was making maps, and they had the last say on particulars, such as color. The two partners argued about it for so long (months)that they totally missed out on their busy season and couldn't afford to keep me on. So I was laid off.

[STORY TIME]

Patient at the hospital who was a chronic alcoholic, got drunk, fell off his toilet and passed out. Laid there for 12 hours sleeping it off, with his arm stuck underneath him. Wakes up with severe pain in his arm. Compartment syndrome and rhabdomyolsis... ended up on dialysis because his kidneys failed him and couldn't keep up with all the myoglobin (broken down muscle tissue) that was clogging them up.

Died 5 days laterbecause he passed out drunkbasically. 50ish years old.


As he is in the hospital in critical care? Gets a family member to smuggle in some whiskey for him, which I promptly confiscated and gave him the riot act... literally on death's door and just wanted another drink.

I can take a pick of several transients in the city I work in who I arrest on a weekly basis. They have a free place to live and free food in the shelter, so they just spend their money on their vices. Finding one wasted by 0730 is a regular occurrence.

Myself. Drinking started at 17, weekend warrior, turned 21, everyday I drank until my 2nd dui. Probation, went sober for months at a time for a year. Age 25 - 34, drank every damn day all day after work. Went from 250lbs in high school to over 400, fired from job, drank even harder. Went to the ER in January with liver problems, haven't had a drink since 12/31/2016. Almost my 1 year now. Down to 269 lbs, lifting heavy, diet is under control. Will soon be an AVI having miscer after all these years as I was in no way going to have a pic of me on here. Hopefully be down to 220's by my bday in April. Everything in moderation boyos!

I've worked at bars for a long time so I've seen a lot.

Want to share a positive story.

Where I work now there's this one guy probably around 50 years old who would show up everyday and pound like 15 drinks. About 2 months ago he decided to get sober. He still spends like 6 hours a day at my bar but only drinks Odouls. I'm happy for him.

Grandfather on dads side. Was a tradie and hardcore alcoholic. Beat my grandma, dad and his brother and sister. Not like beatings you guys imagine like you got slapped once or your dad spanked you. I mean beatings. Grandma got cops involved. My dads exact words were "she had to get us away from him.. Or he was gonna beat us all to death..". He lost his job at some point. He wrote some note about how this was his familys fault and killed himself, a true alcoholic til the end. My dad was 12.

My grandfather on my moms side abandoned the family. He was an alcoholic.

My, I guess friend, of over 10 years died recently of alcoholism. We had falling out. He was a closet drinker, vodka in the water bottle type. His skin was yellow and he was still drinking. We joke about this topic but he had aspergers a type of autism. I think it was a factor.

I have a story but its none of your business unless i choose to share which i dont at the moment.

A guy I grew up with - alcoholism ran in his family.

He was hunting one night. Got too drunk, passed out on the railroad tracks and was run over by a train.

My uncles srs both mother side (one blood related moms bro and one married my moms sister)

First uncle was smart as fukk apparently till he found the bottle. Dropped out of college (engineering) because of alcohol. He went basically homeless as he couldn't keep jobs. Turned his life around now has a family and kids.

2nd one was in the military, an officer. They all drank of course but he took it too far. Lost his job and most jobs after. He drinks till this day. He is drunk most of the day and will wake up even in the middle of the night to drink. During family gatherings he will show up semi sober disappear or hide to drink from flasks then pop up drunk. At this point no one even cares anymore

My current roommate. He drinks everyday; not just at night but in the morning and afternoon. It's usually whiskey or beer. This morning I wake up to him talking to himself and whistling/humming for hours. He eventually passed out and then woke up 3 Hours ago and doesn't remember me talking to him this morning. Who decides to black out on Wednesday morning

Scenario/context of when you witnessed this?

I have a family member who is a pa and a doctor at her hospital died of alcohol related issues recently. Apparently was a well respected physician but was a closet alcoholic and somehow pulled off the chirade because he was good at his job.

my Craigslist roommate 25 YO Female at the time would slam an unknown amount of wine everyday (secretly). one day she asked my friend who was visiting and I if we wanted to have some wine with her. She had a 750ml out and a giant bottle 1750ml. we declined since it was Sunday and my friend and I had plans the following day. Decided to just chill and watch TV, she would get up to "use the restroom" several times then all of a sudden she was unresponsive on the couch around 5pm Sunday. she was so good at hiding it and i only knew her a few weeks I didn't know how bad it was. Checked the previously full bottles to see how much she had, both were empty. Never seen someone drink that much wine, especially secretly. we dragged her upstairs and threw her in her bed (tough since she was 250lbs+). it was really sad srs. she was a full blown alcoholic and tried manipulating everyone to get what she wanted. the outcome was i moved out ASAP. i bet she lost her job from her drinking for sure

My great uncle. Certified genius. Straight A's his whole life. Fulfilled his dream of going to college at the Naval Academy. Became a high ranking Naval officer. brb becomes alcoholic. brb 50 years old living with his mother in a trailer.

Ex girlfriend.. Tried all in my power to help stop drinking. Very low self control, binge drinking, creating false accusations, became abusive towards me, truly sad. Needs serious time away from current freinds and drinking/drug induced lifestyle. Thinking life stress too much to handle, use to be so good and alive. Alcohol and drugs have taken over.

My neighbour is a 40year old woman, and she is the worse alcoholic I've ever met.

She used to work in Sydney in some media role earning six figures. She's now unemployed and supported by her aunt. She's been to rehab 3x in 3 years. Her house smells like cat piss. She smells like cat piss. Looks like a zombie. Lives a miserable, lonely existence. I reported her for DUI many times and she finally got busted about a year ago. I was legit scared she was going to kill someone. She goes to church and convinces well-meaning people to clean her house and do yard work for free. She's a bad person.

Once she came to my fence asking for help, and she had fallen over. Her face was swollen and her jaw was seized from the bruising.

A few years ago, she was leaving a pub, was struck from behind. Woke up naked/raped. Had to run home naked.

Sadly yes, wont mention who. Good person underneath, really caring but very low emotional self-control. Constantly needs attention or validation & has hard time finding inner peace. Constantly compares themselves to others. Actually quite an intelligent person but their talent was destroyed or severely inhibited due to drinking. Low self-control and no proper guidance growing up. Has a hard time listening to other's advice & always tries to pretend that they know everything.
