A lot of chit gets talked online, etc. but if you’re seriously depressed or down, please talk to someone or ask for help.

A 17-year-old kid from our gym took his life a month after accepting a full ride scholarship to play defensive end at Colorado State University. No one saw it coming, never saw the kid without a smile on his face and his parents were just great, supportive people...you just never know.

So many have the world at their finger tips and make a permanent decision on a temporary feeling.

If you’re down, just please ask for help.

Teenage years are so difficult. I sometimes think we should take middle school and throw out any attempt at teaching them school things and instead teach emotional and moral skills, how to deal with others in society, and mental and physical health. Not sure it would fix anything, though, since human frontal lobes aren't done developing under early 20s, and thus teenagers often act impulsively and harm themselves/others.

Wholeheartedly disagree. I learned more in middle school curriculum wise as opposed to high school. School things should be taught in middle school and real life skills should be taught in high school.

One of the guys in our hunting group who was a great kid (25) just ended his life. Same thing as OP. not only left us sad, mad...but so confused as to why? Never saw it comin.

I know I am going to get negged for this but I will post it anyway.

I always wondered about suicide, especially among the chronically depressed. If someone actually takes their own lives, they must have endured pure agony for a long time. So maybe to them death is better than living in misery. Yeah 17 is pretty young so it probably doesn't apply to what I am saying but if he was 27 and had been severely depressed for 10+ years, I don't think it fair to assume that he made a bad decision. Just a decision that they felt was right.

People will point out how it will negatively affect the ones around them - like family and friends but I think that is also a bad way of looking at things. Wouldn't it be selfish to have someone around even though all they want to do is die. It is definitely a complicated issue that no one really thinks about.

Yes, my niece is 16 and the stuff she battles just guts me.

We have our numbers to all of the high school kids that train with us just an outlet. What seems to happen at time is they might be more willing to open up to us instead of their parents for whatever reason.

All of these loses are tragic but this kid was really one that lit hard; so sad.

The ripple left behind is so awful. His dad had gotten a job in CO, sold their home and moved there to get established so they could stay in CO for the 4 years he would be in school.

So many moving parts to these things and it’s like wtf do you do? Turn to robot mode so you can just get by until you’re able to wrap your mind around how to deal with the loss? I have no idea...

As someone who has lost an Uncle to suicide, my mother and cousin to brain cancer I can answer that. Yes, you become a robot until you can process the situation. You become numb to everything and just feel empty inside. It's gut wrenching almost. You feel so distant from people and emotionally detached. You want to cry at the thought of them no longer being, you want to smile/laugh at the memories you formed with them and you want to scream and yell in frustration. It truly numbs you to the core.

I knew this chick. Came from a rich family, went to one of the most expensive high schools in the state, track star. Got a full ride to an Ivy university. Sent every member a gift in mail and then jumped off the top deck of the parking lot. I don’t know how people can do it and what drives them to do it.

Anymore, i don't even try to process these things. Other than 'this is life' BS. Christ, you'll go crazy trying to understand why good people die or take their lives and yet scum still gets to walk and take up oxygen. To all the above, who lost someone...just know we are all in the same 'WTF' fraternity to which we'll never get the answers. One main reason i believe in the afterlife is hoping that when we kick it, we may get those answers. Until then, we just (using Misc's favorite term) COPE.

Middle school days...We had a computer class that everyone had to take. The teacher was awesome, you would never know he would take his life. Obviously the story got around the school. A couple years later I had a coworker chick that invited me to a party. It was only like 10 people there, having beers BS’ing around. 5 chicks, 5 guys. This one kid was pretty cool. Next day at work the chick told me that he found his father hanging in the basement, then said the last name, and that was my computer teacher. I had a frozen face the whole day.
