Finance it if you must - but, only take a loan for 3 years. So, what does this mean? It means, buying an approrpriately priced car to where you can still live your life and make ends meet while paying a loan off in three years.

Wouldn't be terrible if there was no down payment. I mean, $250/month for 3 years on a depreciating asset would be ok if you didn't have to drop 3k on it first.

Brb guarantee of knowing equity position in 2-3 yrs
Brb short term finance allows you to walk away halfway through loan or buy out the rest.. depending on equity position

Brb.. brb.. u wut m8? Do you even finance advice?? Unless you plan on driving a beater or tieing up a large amount of cash in a vehicle (rapidly depreciating asset)(which would be dumb) leasing is actually a very smart option..

Wrong. If you change vehicles frequently and don't drive a ton of miles, it is fine. If you make 30k/yr like OP then yeah, buy a used Civic.

So much this. If you can take care of the vehicle (wear and tear) and stay within the allotted mileage it is a can't lose. You don't "own" a retail financed vehicle until it is paid off. If you try to trade it in before you've paid it off and it is worth less than you owe you have to make up that difference(This is almost always the case within the first three years.) When your lease is over you can turn it in and you are not responsible for the equity position. Conversely, if it is worth more than you owe you can purchase it and private sell or trade it in.

Also the avg lease payment is 50 percent lower than avg payment of a retail finance.

It also doesn't mean it's a poor financial decision. Context is everything. If you have no intentions of replacing a vehicle more than a few times a year or you drive a lot, it's not the ideal route. If you don't drive a lot, want a newer vehicle every few years, don't ever want to worry about warranty, etc then it is fine. Just lol

Buying anything other then a $500 Civic isn't a great financial decision. But not everybody is broke and some people see cars as more then a tool.

Buying a new car can be equally potato. leasing a car using a business can sometimes work out. There are some instances/preferences where it can make sense. Certain brands make it potato to lease for sure though (Audi for instance)

it really depends. I don't know how the costs vary amongst different makes... but I did extensive research on lease vs buy for bmw 335 a year ago when helping my ex carshop and the cost ends up being the same really.
