Man Versus Machine- bloody knuckles turbo build

So to break up the monotony of Tranny, Tiktok and call-out threads I figured I would use this forum as a tool to document my Track car build.

Goal is to have a reliable 500hp car that will have headroom to make more power if I desire. 500 in a FWD lightweight car is a handful so I doubt it will be any more however. If people don't care about the build I'm not really concerned as l can use it as a way to document the build for myself. This will be an ongoing project spanning more than a year possibly

I've had a few people mention I should also do a YouTube version of the build as that seems popular now

Overview:
1998 Nissan 200sx SE-R
SR20VE-T

Block- stock for now. SR's are notorious for having beefy internals and a penchant to hold it well. If the internals give out at some point I will build it. Only changes will be a N1 MLS headgasket, and Mazworx head studs.

Head-
-Kelfold turbo cams
-Supertech valve springs and Ti retainers.

All this stuff was already installed when I bought the head off a guy in PR. The head will be sent off to Mazworx for a CNC port and have the seals replaced.

Geezus bro that's $40k in parts, at least. Do you have a background in fabrication? This is a big boy project.

There's no canbus or anything to worry about, right?

I made alot of friends over the years. Most of the work I will do myself except the manifold, downpipe, tuning etc. The coils themselves were 3400 alone before the swift springs. Hopefully they arrive next week cause I ordered them first week of February

Some of the stuff I already had and some I haven't ordered yet. I just got the shipping confirmation for the head studs after 5 days.

This won't be CA legal one bit, I will be doing my smog cash only nomsayin.

You definitely have a serious list of parts there. Not at all a budget build for what it is. Can I ask why not a cheap platform rwd car..? F Body, Fox body? Or a K20 based fwd car? Looking forward to this regardless. Take pics!

SR20VE=/= K20. Mazworx had the world's fastest 4 cylinder in 2018 which was a SR20VE-T as well granted with a massive budget and 2400 hp. I don't like Honda's and I have been delving into Nissan's since I was 18.

I like this platform cause you never see them, massive potential and less chance of leaving the driveway without your knowing. I have lots of extra parts over the years and Fox bodies while fun are too popular and a bit played out here

Mishimoto slim fan setup showed up early, quick test fit to confirm brackets line up nice. This will shave 1.3 inches off the factory radiator and fan setup which is great in addition to the added cooling from an all aluminum rad which is 3 times thicker than stock.

Plan for today is to pressure wash the engine and get it stripped down to the block to mount on the stand

Why the 235s on only 8" wheels? Don't know much about Nissan but is it a spacing issue or you have some weird bolt pattern and can't get wider wheels to fit the tires?

Can't really fit anything bigger without flares. 8 inch is pretty close to the coils as is, with some fancy flaring I can probably fit 245s or 55s. The car is only about 2100 lbs with the carbon fiber and the factory deadening removed.

Edit- 255/35 is probable but I prefer the feedback from a slightly larger sidewall on the tracks I frequently go to aka Laguna and Buttonwilllow.

I got the car already converted to 4x114.3 by the previous owner got knows why. I kept the updated spindles as they are needed for the caliper swap but I had some machining done so I could use the old 4x100 bolt pattern a few months back. The Wheels are paid but on backorder due to Covid and they are the lightest wheels in that size without getting into Volk pricing (4k) or so

Motor needed a good cleaning. I've been trying to track down a leak for months and I'm gonna hazard it's been coming from the Original headgasket. Replace the VC gasket as that's the most likely source to no avail. Oil seeping from between the head and oil pump galley.

You can see my baller Gspec crank pulley and the crack the PO decided to fix with Jb weld. This will be getting Tigged. Luckily I got this motor with the documentation it only had 32,000 miles.

And clean

Not much to report today. Some parts showed up and I got the brake booster coated to match the rest of the brackets.

Spent most the day running errands and whatnot but I'm going to be running out to grab more material to prep the engine bay for paint.

-Engine mounted on the stand and starting to strip it down.

-head studs are still MIA from Mazworx but the head is getting pulled to send out.

Cams out, cam caps id'd and bagged, tensioner and headbolts tossed in the trash for replacements

Always make sure your #1 is at tdc and your timing marks are lined up on the proper links.
This is standard procedure with most cars that use a chain instead of a timing belt.

These are the trick rocker setups. If you wanna spend a few g's you can do solid lifters and zoom to 11-12k all day. I'll be happy with 9-9500rpm.

What is it in North America? The Sentra hatchback?

Post a pic I’m keen to see

Also my old 300zx tt (z32) had about 280kw at the wheels and it was a handful with fairly sticky 245s on the back
It's a 2 door Sentra coupe basically. It's the SE-R model came with an SR.

I miss my Z32, drunk driver took it out sadly

Not sure what color to paint my engine bay. I know it will be black however I'm torn between a simple metallic black or standard gloss black.

I could even mess around and do a grey like the Audi Nardi Grey or the Stealth grey on the Focus RS
