6'6. E-1 @ Ft. Knox (trained for Armor but attached to an infantry company because of his shooting skills) around 1951/1952. Got drafted and sent to Camp something or other. Did two years there making multiple raids across the DMZ into NK. Came out as an E9.

He told me once about his platoon standing against a company (about 20-30 vs 100-150) and platoon had the high ground while the NK were behind a burm and trench. All they could see was the tops of heads occasionally bobbing above the dirt. So granddad said "Well, i reckoned those were as good a target as any so I put a 30-06 through any hat i saw pop up. Forcing that company to retreat got our entire unit a presidential citation. But it was a group effort. Had little to do with me." (The M1 Garand fires a 30-06 and the NK wore hats most of the time rather than helmets. Absolute boss

You can tie the ends up (the feet holes) and they will hold air so you can loop them around your head and use them as a floatation device. Also, MUUUUCH easier to grab when i ma is going overboard or already int he water
