Wisdom Teeth Removal

UPDATE See Post #34



Hold me brahs. Getting all 4 Wisdom teeth removed, 2 of which are impacted, 1 will also be accompanied with a bone graft from a cadaver for bone regrowth/healing.

They said they're gonna put an IV in me for sedation. They described it as being knocked out (twilight sedation?) while still having cognitive function (so I can control my own breathing and not ****/piss myself).

Is it as bad as I'm thinking it's gonna be?

Fuaaaark. Good luck, OP. Do they cause you pain? I have two impacted wisdom teeth on the bottom. They’re fully developed completely sideways and never broke through my gums. They don’t cause me any pain so I’ve avoided getting them taken out. Ngl, the thought of going through that procedure scares me too.

No pain. I'm 25 so all 4 teeth are pretty far along, the 2 top ones are fully in and normal (albeit with a weird outward curve, it seems). The 2 bottom ones are impacted horizontal, and used to cause some pain (likely due to pushing through bone and gumline).

Sounds like we have the same mouth brah. I wonder if it’s really necessary to have them removed.

it's literally a non-event

the bone graft might mean a little longer recovery or more soreness but i don't have personal experience with that

they'll probably tell you when they're about to put you out, you'll wake up in a recovery room on pain meds and they'll send you home with some, you'll have to be careful what you eat for a few days so you don't pull out the stitches

i stopped taking the pain meds after a couple cause they made me feel worse than the pain did

It's fairly easy. Had all 4 of mine taken out in one session. Was pretty sore for a week after, they'll prob prescribe some Rx pain killers.

Not going to lie it was a pretty chitty experience for me. The pills they gave me made me nauseous and the pain didn’t quite start until after 3 days.

Protip: Go to a maxofillial surgeon as opposed to a normal dentist to get your wisdom teeth removed. They will do a better job, and healing time will be substantially lower. Mine only took 2 days to heal for all 4 being removed. Not sure what prices would be like where you are but it was about 1500 for mine, including full anesthesia.

A lot of times I'll wake up with some cuts or self-inflicted ulcers in the gums, likely in part from the wisdom teeth. They mentioned that the top ones gotta go because the way they're angled they can inflict cuts/tears when biting.

Exactly the same situation as me. Never gotten them out because I've never needed to.

I had all 4 taken out at once, they sedated me I didnt feel a thing during or after. The only time I felt pain was when I whipped my head back in the shower and I think I pulled on the stitches when I did that, hurt like a bitch. I just took the 700mg advil didnt touch the vicadin and I was good. Youll be fine

srs those pills are ridiculous, i don't understand how people abuse them

i got dizzy, felt disconnected from my body.. i just started alternating advil and tylenol and had no sides

got a huge cavity on one of mine recently and got all 4 of mine out 8 days ago. stuck an iv in me, gave me some laughing gas, and next thing i know my eyes are coming into focus and they're telling me they're done.

took 1 of the vicodin but it made me feel sick and didn't do anything for pain, so just hit 600mg advil every few hours instead and was never in pain after that.


honestly the biggest deal about it has been having to watch what I eat and work up to hard foods, but I'm eating normally now.

Weight: 180 lbs.

I woke up for a couple of seconds during mine. I couldn’t open my eyes but I could feel the doctors hand in my mouth. You should be fine just make sure to ice it afterwards and eat soup / soft foods.

My fam did not win the lottery when it comes to dental health, at all. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted (only one was slightly showing and causing pain) because I was having it done at cost to my insurance and didnt want to end up needing the other 3 removed and having to pay out of pocket for the others. I needed the pain meds they gave me just to get some sleep the first day.

That doesn't sound terrible, as long as those moments were largely painless and super short / rare.

Same, all my family has pharked up wisdom teeth. Some are in their 50s+ without having removed them, even though they should've. I'm paying out of pocket for mine, the dental insurance I went with was cheap, and I'm an idiot.

For some it's pain. For some it's shape of teeth pushing and shifting the other teeth out of alignment. For some it's teeth coming in at curves and generating sockets between teeth that bacteria grows in and you can't properly clean, or causing bites to cut your gums.

Had all 4 taken out at once with the bottom 2 being impacted and needing them cut out in sections. Wasn't a fun experience but I chalk it up to the fact that I was only given a local and had to be awake during the whole procedure. Took antibiotics before and extra strength Tylenol after -- no Vicodin at all. Biggest surprise was the doctor telling me no hanky panky for the next few days. Otherwise healing went well and I ended up pulling out the sutures by myself.

Top 2 weren't impacted but my bottom 2 were.
Did not do the whole body sedation because that shiit cost as much as the procedure.
I felt the pressure when they were removing my teeth and was a bit scared when they were drilling down my mouth but it wasn't that bad.

What really sucked though was when the anesthesia wore off. I thought I could just man up without the Vicodin but once the pain came on, I popped those pills like tic tacs.

Only paid 900 bucks for everything. Worth it. I was having pain in my bottom jaw at night and it kept me up several times so that's why I got them removed.

If you aren’t in pain then why do it? The surgery is horrible. I passed out at work because one of my wisdom teeth was coming in and in pain. They gave me 60 Vicodin and I couldn’t eat it do **** for a week

I had my top two out a couple of weeks ago, just local anesthetic, fully conscious, was pretty ruthless hearing and feeling the roots cracking and getting them yanked. Recovery was about 2 days, eating normally after day 3. Bottom are a lot worse to get out by all accounts. Am I glad I got it done? Yes 100%. I'd also echo the calls above to go to a dental surgeon rather than a dentist.

Ur probably getting scammed son, wisdom teeth extraction is a con in a significant number of cases (especially when they blanket decide to remove all 4 without clear indication)

Most impacted wisdom teeth cause no issues

Just go and get a second opinion somewhere. I noticed massively improved dental hygeine after getting mine out, they can be very hard to clean and trap all sorts of **** at the back.

I did fine after mine years ago, multiple impacted I believe. The worst part was just the recovery of not being able to eat what the hell I wanted to and also I tasted blood in my mouth often lol. You got this brah!
