If treadmill weight limit is 240lbs and someone who is 285lbs uses it, it’ll break??

I found a good treadmill online but I am over the weight limit. With a treadmill will it matter much?

Obviously I am trying to drop the weight fast, so won’t be over the user limit too long

Why not go for a heavier unit?

If it's a used one that you can get cheap it might hold up fine an the manufacturer might put that on there to cover their asses.
Keep the belt well lubed with dry silicon to reduce friction. That make a huge difference on the strain on the motor.
I am close to the weight limit for mine and it's been fine so far.

The manufactures like to recommend some special lube usually with their brand name.
Little bottle is like 25 bucks.
I've been using this WD-40 chit with good results. Dries and leaves silicone lube behind.
No smell once it dries.
A few good sprays all the way in to the center of the belt does the trick. 10 times cheaper than the OG manufacturer chit.
You'll hear the motor less loaded down when it's lubed.

Awesome so I will get me some wd-40. So what is it with the motor and the weight limit?
Is that what will “break”? I thought they whole platform would just collapse lol

Is it easier on the treadmill if I just walk for now?

Hard to say what might break, or if anything will. You'll have to try it out. Just start walking on it I guess.
You could put some blocks of wood uner the middle of the frame for extra support till you drop your weight down just to be safe.

Make sure you get the silicone type WD-40 when you get some. The regular stuff is oily and will attract dirt and wear the belt.

Speaking from experience the belt will slip when your foot lands if you’re running and you can easily hurt yourself, don’t do it.

Issue is the power (horse power/continuous horse power) it would take wouldn’t be able to handle past it’s weight capacity.

When they set weight capacities, I believe you don’t want to be near max cap, but this is brand specific. You can run on it and all of a sudden it slows down big time because it can’t produce that much power. It also has an impact on the longevity of your treadmill.

Unfortunately good treadmills that support 285lbs + are fukn expensive.

You should look up treadmills by chp

Edit: lol op you’d be better off getting a vr headset and playing fitness games... either that or just walk outside... or implement both in your workout regimen

Head first into the control panel is usually what happens.
I've had to adjust the belt on mine a few times.
Thing with a treadmill is if I'm on it all the time it gets boring AF quick.
I get on it, do my time and bert stare the timer in anticipation that it'll be over with.
Mine was 25 bucks from a thrift store. If I had to buy one again I wouldn't want to pay much more. And really it isn't anymore fun than jogging in place.
It's OK when the weather is crap, but it's no comparison to being outdoors in the woods, seeing new sights, getting fresh air.

The board that is under the belt will break and you will have to fully take the thing apart, buy a new board and reassemble it.

Pain in the butt, I did it twice on mine years ago.
