I had a late Fathers day with my dad, and he revealed to me he buried a bunch of guns, ammo, and gold on an island that isn't accessible by regular boat, that you would need to take something smaller like a kayak, and walk the rest of the way. He claimed he was visited by spirits in his dreams that this is what he needed to do. He now wants to take me on a Kayaking trip so he can reveal these locations for me because I am the only person he trusts with this information.

After this, I did ask him if he was dying, and he said no. He's in absolutely ridiculous physical shape for someone in his mid-60's, and I would say at a bare minimum, he has another 10 years, unless something like cancer comes out of left field. I think some of this might stem from his father dying when he was the same age as he is now, so now he is fearing his own mortality. Even still, my dad was ridiculously cheap when I was growing up. My clothes were from the dollar store, all food was bought from budget grocery chains in bulk, and my family lived like poorcells even though he was making close to 6-figures in the 90's.

So he has been saving all of this money all of this time in investment portfolios that through compound interest and stock market gains, he realizes that he is never going to need all of the money he saved at his standard of living, so he decided to convert a bunch of it to gold and bury it. He also bought lots of guns and ammo over the years and buried those as well because the spirits in his dreams told him we would need them.

I'm really not quite sure what to do with this information right now. My dad was always a very practical man. He was raised Catholic, but never fully trusted the religion and thought much of it was bull****. But now, all of the sudden, I find he's burying excess guns, ammo, and gold on a ****ing island because he wants his children to have a fair chance against what is to come. I'm apparently supposed to dig up all of this gold and split it with my sister, and with the guns/ammo, I'm supposed to protect his wife (my step mom) who is probably too useless to be able to defend herself if **** did hit the fan and he wasn't around to protect her.

Nevertheless, I am planning a kayak trip with my dad so he can show me where he buried everything.
