It's illegal federally, so they're allowed to test and eliminate you from employment until that's changed. (Ded fkn Srs)

As a fellow Illinoisan, most business don't care unless you are doing something that is federally regulated. i.e. banks, security clearances, CDL license etc..

What job is it for?

Not 100% accurate.

If your industry is regulated on a federal level (I.e. finance), then the liability is in a federal level for the company and they have to abide by that standard.

Most other industries aren’t federally regulated, so you don’t have to worry too much unless you’re driving a truck or something

most dont test as its expensive

and a lot of the bigger companies only test after major accidents aka switched train onto wrong track aka tipped over snow plow while driving it

big **** like that so legally they can blame the individual and not the company.

not "normal" accidents

Even if that is changed, I believe any company has the right to test you for any alcohol / drugs,

It is perfectly legal country wide in Canada, Federally as well.

A large amount of companies test, Anything worth doing.

And if you fcuk up, You will be going for a piss.

Yes I'm in California and we do. Companies that test tend to be involved in healthcare or jobs the require you to work on or around heavy machinery or driving. If you're doing anything like that, you're gonna get tested.

Yes they will test you OP. But! Here’s some advice that’s always worked for me: Pee mid-stream. Start peeing and then halfway through, start peeing into the cup. Then take the cup away right before you’re finished so you end up finishing in the toilet. The mid-stream of concentrates will be lower than the beginning and end

I hope you pass if this is a problem and stop smoking immediately leading up to the test. Don’t chug water because your test may be non-readable and that is a fail in a lot of circumstances.

Good luck!!!

Marijuana is illegal in every state. It's illegal at the federal level, and states are not actually allowed to make laws that contradict federal law.

I wouldn’t worry if your joining the trades. I work in construction (no tradies). Half the ppl in the trades smoke more than just weed.

Depends if it's a local business or a multi state corporation. My brother in law is an engineer in a legal state and works for a local LLC. They don't get tested... I work for a multi state corporation and our company does test in all states. Including states weed is legal. We also have to comply with DOT federal laws.

As stated above, a lot of bigger companies do test for it. Doesn’t matter that it’s legal. Some won’t hire people if they even have nicotine in their bloodwork.

Yes if you work for the state or federal government, maybe even some counties, rarely if you work for a company with a state or federal contract

A lot of major companies don’t, but some will.

Usually on Glassdoor you can find out.

I’ve only ever been drug tested for a hospital which kind of makes sense.

I think it might be more likely at a smaller company, once you get into the big boy professional, larger companies they don’t give a ****.

Just don’t be going into an interview reeking like weed.

Nah. It's easier than that. Just get a buddy who you are sure has clean piss to piss in a small jar for you before your pee test, strap it to your leg keep it hidden and warm (you'll blow your cover if you deliver cold piss), pour it into the cup instead of pissing into it yourself, and call it a day. They aren't gonna stare at ya for a pre-employment drug test, you just go to a clinic and they close the door on ya while you do it.

Whatever ya do though, if you work at a place that's willing to pay for pre-employment testing, make sure you don't F up and get into an accident that would make them test you. I know a dude who F'd up his arm pretty bad at a factory job once. Dude smokes up daily, and they were gonna test his assss until he lied and said it happened at home on a coat hanger or some bs so he could just leave work that day and pretend it didn't happen there. Guaranteed he was toast if he hadn't come up with the bs excuse.

Edit: Also, if you do ever use that pee trick, don't be lazy and ask your gf or any chick for that matter to help you. It has to be a dude's piss or they'll laugh at your dumbassss good and hard.
