New desktop PC help?

Looking to get a new desktop PC as mine is 8 years old now and running a little slow. I don't really do anything special on my PC like gaming. I browse the misc. Usually have about 30 tabs open. Watch some videos and use some apps like ********/Slack/Discord/Office 365 etc. I know most of the options I am looking at will probably be more than what I need, but I want it to be a little future proof as well. I am looking at the all in one desktops as I don't have much space with a budget that I would like to stay around $1,200. Here are some options so far.

Asus for $1,100. I have an Asus laptop that I have enjoyed for a year or so now. No problems.

HP Pavilion customized would be around $1,300. My current desktop is HP and it's been solid for 8 years.

MSI for $1,250. Don't know much about the brand. Have heard they make pretty good quality for cheap.

This tower after buying a monitor and keyboard/mouse would probably put me over $1,300 but it looks like the specs are much better obviously. I'm more interested in the All in Ones though. Any solid advice and I'll rep.

The first three are absolute dog chit.
Out of those four I would get the HP Envy at costo. 32gb ram and decent video card. That will get the job done for what you need.


There is a microcenter by Chicago I believe I would check them out too.

I disagree with avoiding Microsoft.

I will say tho, If you are looking for longevity out of this new PC: AIO & Laptops suffer from the same problem of lack of airflow and overheating components which = less life. So you may want to reconsider your stance on the tower PC's.

If u still dont care then id say just get a nice laptop and hook it up for a monitor at home.

If you want a laptop I'd aim for at least 16gb ram, 32gb ideally. And if you have a microcenter near you I'd go with them cause if it has problems you can just drive in and have them fix rather than shipping it. Microcenter will have a ton of options for you if you go in they'll help you pick the best one for your needs.

I'm too old to be switching OS at this stage. I've been using Windows for most of my life at this point. Couple that with the fact that Apple is so expensive. I just tend to stay away now even though there is probably a decent amount of truth to your statement.

I currently have a laptop. I'm looking specifically for a new desktop right now. I do have a MicroCenter down the street actually so maybe I'll drop in. Thanks

Nothing will be really be future proof outside of a Mac or Microsoft surface studio but those are crazy prices.
Dell do decent pc units.
Intel do a mini pc called NUC similar to Apples mac mini but you compromise on gpu upgrades like a tower unit.

I just did this recently as Microsoft is phasing out support for windows(old versions) and my nerdy, it manager, gamer friend, told me to pay the extra and get the Msi.
They make mother boards he told me and reliable gamer stuff, so i bought it.

I recently bought this one when it was on sale (if you wait a while it probably will again), I believe I paid $1149. Works perfectly for my needs and can even run any game I have tried (but i am not a “hardcore” gamer) if worried about overheating, blow put the fan every few months. This replaced an older imac 27”

If you need it pretty much just for browsing:

16gb ram
1-2TB SSD
although it's not strictly necessary, get dedicated GPU. 3060 or 3060 Ti (or the AMD equivalent). Considering you aren't gaming, that's future-proofing enough for you
Intel i7 11700 (11th gen) or i5 12th gen

You really dont need more.

I've repped too many today. Will come back in tomorrow. I'm looking at these mini pc's now and they seem to be a compromise between a desktop and an All in One which I am cool with. This one has some good reviews. I have a really dumb question though. For something like below, would I be able to plus my desktop speakers in? Currently my speakers are plugged into an audio out jack and this one looks like it may be an audio in? Quick google search doesn't really tell me much.

There is a young local guy here that repairs computers and sets up business. I had him build me one from things he was able to
get cheap on Black Friday. It turned out much cheaper and a way better quality than ordering one.

Looks decent. It comes with a keyboard and mouse. It can be used for anything and will last you 10+ years granted it's taken care of and parts aren't faulty, etc. 32GB of RAM so you can have all the tabs open & programs running you want. 4K movies (or gaming) is no issue. Video rendering? Consider it finished yesterday.

Sorry. I looked under the Audio in Tech Specs and looked at the pics that show headphones and a mic on the jack.

Just get a NUC or other mini PC and mount it to the back of the monitor. Pair with a wireless mouse and keyboard and you'll have a sleek system that should meet all the needs you described.

I'd agree with you, but honestly maybe we're both wrong and he should just go mediocre and get average cpu with integrated

Actually ended up going with the BeeLink SER6 Pro which is pretty comparable to the minisforum in a bunch of youtube reviews. It was on a lightning deal today from the Beelink amazon store (easy returns in case of problems). $545 with an extra $40 coupon they tack on the deal. I think it will be more than enough for me. I'm more concerned on updating drivers and BIOS stuff that I'm reading as I'm pretty computer illiterate. Also transferring everything from my current PC to this new one I'm sure will also cause me a headache.
