I payed a lot for dinner in nice restaurants with good looking dates in my early to mid 20s few times. I legit knew I wasn’t into them as people/barely knew them, and just wanted to go to hot spots/restaurants with a good looking date instead of a friend, and was too impatient to wait for someone I knew and liked. Money was rolling in at the time, and I just wanted to be at the best places and have a good night.

By 25 or so I only went to nice places with real prospects. And regarding casual sex, that was always some bar/club stuff, or meeting at apartments, rarely got it from dinner dates.

There was some other selfishness to it. Dinners usually lead to bars and whatnot after, and I was shallow at the time. When exclusive bars saw me coming in with good looking women regularly, I became a regular. Got to know staff very well. Made friends. After a while the women were unnecessary, and I walked past lines into places. NYC bar culture was a universe unto itself back then. That was a long time ago though, and I know a lot has changed.
