How reliable is the older 5.7 Hemi?

My mother is wanting an older Charger, 2006 - 2010, something she can afford. She likes the muscle car looks and the V8 of course.

I was reading good things about the 5.7, it's stronger than the 6.4 and big aftermarket support. However, doing some more reading they aren't reliable at high miles.

No gen 3 Hemi is reliable at high mileage.

The reason is because of the lifter geometry. The lifters are at such a steep angle, that at low RPMs they are starved of oil. This causes lifters to fail and cam lobes to be wiped.

The only band aid solution is to swap out the oil pump with a hellcat pump, as they are high volume pumps.

The older 5.7 Hemi engines found in 2006 to 2010 Chargers are known for their power and muscle car appeal, with strong aftermarket support. However, their reliability can be hit or miss at higher mileages, with potential issues in components like the Multi-Displacement System and wear on lifters and camshafts. If your mother is keen on one, look for well-maintained examples with a clear maintenance history and consider a pre-purchase inspection to find a reliable option.
