What are the some of the genre's of games you really love / enjoy these days?
Bit of a mirror to my previous thread -https://forum.obnoxiousbrutes.com/showt...hp?t=184515413
But what are some of the genre's that you've gotten into recently or enjoy really playing?
For me it's the typical 2deep4u cinematic simulator .... Especially ones from Sony, I find Sony games to be masterclass. The attention to detail, graphics, story and gameplay is second to none. To me, playing a Sony exclusive is almost like an event piece where you know you're gonna get the most big budget, blockbuster style of game that's firing on all fronts.
RPGs .... I've always loved RPG games ,but as I get older I really start to appreciate them more and more, especially if its an RPG game that's super deep with a lot of choice/consequence.
CRPGs ..... I've always loved pokemon games as a kid , so playing anything turn based is an instant win for me. I'm super happy seeing a turn-based resurgence in the RPG sector with games like divinity, bg3, pillars of eternity, pathfinder and rogue trader (even Disco Elysium) popping up. I'd go as far as to this is definitely my favorite kind of genre because I just love the heavy story driven narratives that affect everything + the combat ..... I'm still not the best at trying to get around real time paused combat games, but I can definitely stomach it if the game pulls me in like POE/Pathfinder. The only genre I'm struggling to get into is the Tactics genre, as much as I love that a lot of these games are turnbased, tactics style games don't really offer much in terms of story, choice/consequence and are just generally banking on the gameplay/upgrade systems to make you keep playing.
Survival games with multiplayer ---- Minecraft, The Forest (DRG lel) ... I love co-op games. PVP doesn't interest me in the slightest, what really gets me going is working with my friends to accomplish a common goal.

Whatever I can play with the homies pvp, Co op, idc.
I just don't have enough time for alot of single player. I don't want to say it's a waste of time, obviously that's a bad description, but to me it just feels so boring and lonely. I don't have enough down time that I care to spend it alone in a video game world. I play when my homies are on so it really just feels like I'm chillin with the boys to some degree. I play coop with gf a good amount also.
Idk, I get like 0 dopamine release from sitting around alone trying to play overly cinematic games. I do enjoy some from time to time but generally it has to be either game of the decade (cyberpunk) or I have to be at a period in my life with massive amounts of down time like when I just had covid.
We all play games for different reasons but I play games for gameplay, I will skip thru most cut scenes because I genuinely think like 1/10 games has comparable writing to a tv show or movie. Most video game stories are like Sci fi channel b tier to me so I don't find them worth it when I could just go watch a movie or show with proper acting and direction.
Video games just simply are not a story or solo driven experience for me. Too many other things going on to feel like I'm not just wasting my time trying to play some mid tier cinematic driven game, playing against ai that isn't really difficult. Take this however you want, but I feel like people who love these single player experiences aren't good at multiplayer games. And thats fine. But I am really good at mp games, so playing against ai is just so fukkkkkin boringgggggg
Im.a social gamer. If I hop on discord and no one is around, or I text homies and no one can play, I'm probably just going to go do something else. Maybe solo queue until the pain of solo queue kicks in but thats rare.

Bethesda style RPG's, especially Starfield, great game.
Then sports games, especially a good golf game.

Mostly JRPG genre which I only got into 2 years ago.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of The White Witch
Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom
Live A Live
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Octopath Traveler 1-2
Bravely Default 2
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
Shin Megami Tensei V
Triangle Strategy
Collection of Mana
The Banner Saga
Before that it was strictly action almost always 3rd person, survival horror, platformers with some FPS , and some rpgs

I really enjoy RPGs and CRPGs but I have 2 kids and another on the way so the time commitment means I'm locked into those games for 6 months and it takes me 6 months to beat one game.
I've started to really enjoy games that are between 10-20 hours because I can beat them and move on in a month or so.
Similar to freeburner, if I'm on and a few buddies are on I'm not playing SP games so I'll usually hop on COD or Street Fighter or whatever floats our boats now. I can't really get into live service games because of time constraints so I don't have time to grind and those games generally are light on narrative so there isn't much draw.
I also tend to veg out for a couple hours a week on something dumb like Teamfight Tactics or Clash of Clans when I really just need to turn my brain off and need a distraction.

RPGs I guess. BG3 really scratched that itch for a while, same with CP2077 + PL.
Defo buying Rogue Trader from Owlcat, Wrath of the Righteous was pretty fuking awesome and I really love 40k (novels, haven't played the table top).
Also enjoyed Diablo 4 (I know, ARPG) pre season and season 1 with a buddy, can always pop back in if stuff gets interesting enough.
New WoW expansion also seemed interesting, I just hope I won't be too interested since I mostly got into WoW after a break up/hitting a downer cycle.

I started a second play through in 2D but haven’t gone back to it yet but in the backlog.
8 would hold up if I played it on ps5 from the ps2 catalog? I bet it has well written dialogue, characters, great quests. How’s soundtrack?
