He's not wrong. ChatGPT is already better at coding than probably 99% of people who went to school for it. And it'll only get better.

What a retarded statement.
If AI can code as good as humans, then AI can make better chips than humans and AI will replace NVIDA.

If the AI was smart enough to code without humans, then what job would you teach kids? At that point, everything could be converted to machine learning.

He argues the rise of AI means we can replace programming languages with human language prompts thus enabling everyone to be a programmer.
AI will kill coding.
AI will kill coding.
The useful part of a programmer is being able to solve a problem logically/mathematically. If you ask a random person to solve some math/code problem in English they won't all give you the right answer. Being able to "code" in English doesn't matter at all.
It's not surprising that the CEO thinks that "coders" are just people who know how to type in "those goofy programming languages" because hiring in the field has been focused on what "languages" you know and which "certs" you have for a long time.

The reality is that any efficiency improvements often result in less jobs.
In the early days of humanity, lots of people were farmers. Probably like 50% of the population. But we got better farm equipment like plows, fertilizer, mules, black people, tractors, mexicans, harvesting machines, fertilizer etc. Now only a fraction of people are actually farmers and urban flight is real
The question is if we can redirect those efficiency improvements into more productivity (i.e. collectively double the amount of programming work done in the world) or less jobs (same amount of programming work but done by less people)

Nah, this is just another tech industry downturn that has happened over and over again. The highs are insanely glorious but the cyclical downturns are brutal.

i've asked it to fix certain code and it's 50/50.
that doesn't mean it doesn't work when writing code from scratch. i am talking editing existing code. it's not always good at detecting what is specifically needed to get sh*t working

it doesn't do a very good job, not to mention most applications will have functional rules related to its business and ChatGPT will never figure that aspect out

so if 3/4 people are unemployed in the future cause their job is "AI"-ed out now, then wtf would happen?
