Dragon's Dogchit goes to 24fps on consoles
What the hell is this even? The framerate is also uncapped for some bizarre reason meaning it it constantly changes from 24-31 fps.

The irony of the Sony ponies crying about Xbox not doing 60 FPS but finding this acceptable (speaking about the older thread on this game). Peak "real gamer".

Also wait for Digital Foundry and a day one patch, no telling what code they sent IGN, could be very old cause you know they tinker with it anyways so they can have an easy mode so they can get their review out on time
we'll most likely be looking at a locked 60 on ChadStation at launch

Hopefully the launch version can run at least 45 FPS, kinda crazy tho. Pretty sure I read they won't be giving players the option to change settings around like "performance mode vs quality mode" as an example.
Curious how a 4080 will run the game.

I'm glad I didn't get my hopes up early on because the reality appears to corroborate the early leaks.
As for Dragon's Dogma 2 itself, I'm also leaning towards the engine being the problem because the RE engine has not been used for any open world games and was originally designed for linear games back for Resident Evil 7.
Monster Hunter Rise uses it, while World does not, and the former was designed originally for the Switch and looks pretty mediocre even with the better PC, Xbox Series, PS5 versions. And that's with Monster Hunter not even being a true open world game at all, just multiple openish maps you load independently.
MHR PS5:
Spoiler!
What's more, I read something about Street Fighter 6 having bad performance only in its "World Tour" mode, which is some sort of open world thing, and SF6 is the furthest thing from being a visual showcase.
Spoiler!

30 fps is unacceptable in 2024. They might as well stop releasing consoles if they can't play certain games up to standard. Even higher end PC's are struggling with newer games like this.

- graphics that are somehow worse than Witcher 3, except that came out almost a decade ago
- thank you for buying that last gen console, enjoy your 15-30 FPS
- "gameplay" is aimlessly wandering around, on foot, with a fuking stamina bar because fuk you (no, this isn't padding at all, it's…immersive!)
- while occasionally whacking random monsters that are just kinda littered around
- combat is somewhere between Skyrim and a soulslike knock-off
Ok can some of the Dragon's Smegma fans chime in? Is this some kind of inside joke? Where's the game? Why the hell is that "journo" excited about…flailing at some monsters and getting killed?

I understand consoles are weak, but this is unacceptable. I refuse to believe this game can't run on current at 60fps.
Battlefield 2042 runs at 60fps, but this game can't? It all falls on the scrappy developers

E.g., I like the sound of fast travel being ox carts that can be interrupted randomly by enemies; that doesn't sound bad at all and there's probably Skyrim mods just like that. What I don't know is whether the world will be boring as hell to traverse normally, and I'm not going to be some day/week/month 1 buyer to find out.
Another example that I sort of touch on below based on my experience with Monster Hunter, Dragon's Dogma claim to fame with combat is how you can climb on top of enemies and attack them:
Looks really cool and dynamic, but my issue with Monster Hunter comes up where I'd have to know how the hitboxes are. I will take Fromsoft smacking enemies repeatedly but with pristine hitboxes any day over the janky mess that can arise in MH, and the same will hold true if that's also the case with DD2.
And if Capcom is really going to go all out ensuring modding is impossible, then they can go fück themselves. It's a single player game and it's not their job to police how people have to inevitably fix their game on their own end or make content for free that Capcom's own interns can't remotely compete with:
Spoiler!
Capcom:

^And this is a game that requires a performance mode to hit 60fps on consoles.

As much as I still enjoy World/IB, I would have dropped it if it weren't for mods because it still desperately needs some quality of life tweaks bare minimum, and there are also some personal tweaks I've made to improve it further.
So with Wilds, I'm really in the "wait and see" mindset after the reveal because I'm not sure what it's even supposed to bring to the table:
- Looking at the stills , I'm surprised by how little of an advancement its visuals have made, while the trailer (and name) have me worried that they're going to lean into another open world that their engine will struggle with while providing no real benefit. The wide, opening shots they're showcasing do absolutely nothing for me and just seem like they'd be boring spaces given the type of gameplay.
If their "solution" is to further emphasize riding mounts, then it could easily create an extra step to dismounting to go back to fighting on foot like the past two attempts, and I'd be very worried if they tried to make some "mounted combat" phase to taking down monsters if it turned into another gimmick like the clutch claw in Iceborne or the wirebugs in Rise.
- I'm also particularly concerned about the focus on giant monsters with the player riding around because World/IB already shows how Capcom desperately needs risk pissing off their diehard, try-hard fanboys by changing some fundamental aspects of the series in order to keep up with faster, organic monsters, especially if they're going to be getting even bigger.
World/IB revealed the cracks behind having fast monsters that don't behave like programs and react on a dime while keeping the player a slow mess who struggles to get out of their own way and still use combos to pull off core moves. Monster size are another an issue when the player supposedly relies on rolls to distance themselves from enemy attacks instead of iframes when the hitboxes become impossible to dodge.
I think they really need to suck it up and embrace a more Soulslike roll system with actual iframes instead of the state of piss they give you that requires heavy skill point investment to offset, which then takes away from all of the other skills you need. Monsters can become just too big for rolling out of the way to be an option when combined with Capcom's poor hitboxes and outright stupid philosophy on how a massive monster's entire body will arbitrarily turn into one giant hitbox for no reason.
If they don't bother to address the outdated aspects, especially the hitboxes, then they'll have to offer something really convincing for me. Capcom is already past treading on dangerous territory with how they monetized MH Rise because the entire bloody point of the series is to (1) kill monsters, (2) make weapons out of them and wear their flesh. I'd rather they straight up charge for more monsters that include their own weapons, armor, and quests like mini expansion packs because at least it would be complete content rather than half-assed implementations of new skins.

You should not need that kind of brute force for some of these games coming out today while Cyberpunk has mods that look like real life.
