Wonder how long it'll be before we need "three factor authentication"

brb 2FA is now almost everywhere and is a pain in the fukking azz.

brb need a password + picking up your phone & a specific code they send there to log in to anyfukkingthing nowadays.

brb i remember when passwords used to be good enough. youd think they could ask you a security question instead but no - they require you pick up your handheld device or log in to email just to log in to whatever.

bet we hit 3FA eventually.

Two factor isn't everywhere except on specific sites. For sites that matter like banking and such, there is only one factor authentication, usually SMS alone. If someone is able to port your number they can reset your password, enter some basic information about you and take over your account.

But eventually we will migrate towards real MFA and hardware tokens.

Thats why you dont use SMS. Get google voice, since Google voice Text message dosent go thru the cell carrier network that is widely available to eavesdrop on.

Google voice works on some banking sites but others block it for some reason.

I only have 2fa on some very specific money related stuff and that's it. Not sure where you're getting the idea that it's required everywhere.
