Study of UK Biobank shows that 1 in 7000 people in U.K. are children of Incest

https://www.theatlantic.com/health/a...incest/677791/

"The geneticist Jim Wilson, at the University of Edinburgh, was shocked by the frequency he found in the U.K. Biobank, an anonymized research database: One in 7,000 people, according to his unpublished analysis, was born to parents who were first-degree relatives—a brother and a sister or a parent and a child. “That’s way, way more than I think many people would ever imagine,” he told me. And this number is just a floor: It reflects only the cases that resulted in pregnancy, that did not end in miscarriage or abortion, and that led to the birth of a child who grew into an adult who volunteered for a research study.

Most of the people affected may never know about their parentage, but these days, many are stumbling into the truth after AncestryDNA and 23andMe tests. Steve’s case was one of the first Moore worked on involving closely related parents. She now knows of well over 1,000 additional cases of people born from incest, the significant majority between first-degree relatives, with the rest between second-degree relatives (half-siblings, uncle-niece, aunt-nephew, grandparent-grandchild). The cases show up in every part of society, every strata of income, she told me."

Sheesh. Any UK Miscers care to comment? And these were only taking into account births, and to think of all the other sex taking place that didn't result in any pregnancy.

I dunno man, 1 in 7000 that resulted in an actual pregnancy where the person grew up to adult age and chose to submit their genetic data means the UK is likely closer to 1 in 5000 or 1 in 4000. That's a pretty high number.

The consanguinity rate in the UK is 1.1%.

And yet you ppl never talk smack about places like Pakistan (61.2%) and UAE (50.5%).

Also some of those rural areas of the States are dodgy as fuk for it. Textbook example is that freakshow Whittaker family.

Adjust UK consanguinity for Pakistanians and other Muslim weird "keep in the family type" and you have a much lower rate.

You type in cousin marriages to find some info.

Top result in youtube a good documentary and of course Pakistanians whose defect-ridden children are kept alive by tax payer healthcare money.

I dont blame the children but these are serious genetic illnesses that are preventable.

Another stat at the time of the documentary - 33% of children with genetic disorders are born to British Pakistani parents despite at the time of the documentary being 1% of the population.

It's because of arranged marriages. If people were left to fk and marry who they wanted, the problem would gradually resolve itself, but when parents marry their kids off to their cousins, who then marry their kids off to their cousins, the problem becomes bigger with each generation.

Imagine the NHS funds for the subsidised hard-to-get medicine. One teen in the documentary has to take like 20 pills per day to prevent his body from failing to create proteins (aka your whole organ system shutting down).

UK should ban it - archaic law untouched because many Royals did it.

Or at least do it like Ireland in a LGBTQ agenda friendly way - incest allowed between same sex couples. That way at least Conor O'Brien can bang his cousin legally in the ass after grooming him on the family gatherings over St Patricks Day.

What's interesting is that when I have visited Asian countries (Japan is the best example), the streets, trains and even garages were always kept immaculately clean.

When you compare it's like a different species of humans. One lives in filth like rats, the other prioritises every single person around them.

"birth of a child who grew into an adult who volunteered for a research study"

Wouldn't they need the parent's DNA too, to confirm the presence of both in the child?

Seems there is some other key involved. Maybe just the massive ears and over bite.

They can test the trash from outside someone's house to determine whether DNA found at a crime scene is likely a match based on someone's 7th cousin submitting a blood sample to 23 and Me. You honestly don't think the tests can determine whether the person's parents were from the same family?!?

In the OP, it mentions brother/sister and parent/child. Pakistanis and Arabs don't marry their siblings or the children but they do marry cousins.

Generally a random cousin marriage here and there doesn't affect things although there is a higher risk. But when you have multiple generations of cousin marriage or double cousins it becomes really problematic. Which is what some of these communities do. People marry within their communities to the point where the diversity in the gene pool shrinks and you get a lot of weird stuff going on.
