Took a job 11 years ago with incredible staying power, kinda sucks….

Took a job 11 years ago, best friend's older brother went on to be VP of sales and I took his position.

With him as the VP of sales, I'm extraordinarily well off in my ability to keep my job. I have made mistakes that would have ended others. And now my seniority allows me to survive layoffs easily.

And now….as I'm reviewing other positions, I'm f*cking terrified to go somewhere else because I'm just not used to adapting to another company.

Kinda screwed myself

Government work sounds like it would be a good fit for you.

Unless you just can't afford to live/pay your bills or you need to relocate. Why would you leave?

The longer you stay, the more projects and responsibilities you get put on, even if you don't voluntarily get promoted.

The biggest fear I have about my job is they won’t fire me lol.

Absolute worst case scenario, I stay and become just become them.
I only read thread titles and my own posts.

I don’t think the government is able to fire anyone. You can murder hundreds of American citizens (ruby ridge, Waco, OKC bombing, 9/11, Las Vegas shooting) and still not be fired.

Why would you want to switch jobs?

I want to leave because my boss aka friend aka vp sales limits my growth.

I'm as high as I can get here. Just below VP by 1 step.

Other men in my position have had their positions for 25 years and are still in the same role. It's a high role, don't get me wrong.

But…I'm actually quite board and unchallenged here.

11 years is a LONG time at one job.

I’m not some serial job hopper, even when I’m miserable I tend to stay for 2 years minimum, but I feel like I’d be burned out after a decade. Is there still room to grow? Doesn’t it get boring?

A switch might be the best thing to get excited again.
