30+ brahs, what video games can you genuinely get immersed in these days?

It sounds like something you wouldn't want to do (if you don't like games), but I long for the days of being able to escape reality for a good few hours without getting bored. What games can you play these days and genuinely get immersed/absorbed in?

Mass Effect Legendary - for more action and linear style missions

Horizon Zero Dawn + Forbidden West - Open world exploration, being immersed in the world and some occasional combat.

I cant. Ive tried.

I enjoy playing NHL online every once in a while.

But besides that i cant get into anything at all.

The only games i have fun with are old games from my childhood. Ive been playing SNES again when i have time and i absolutely love those games. I also downloaded age of empires 2 from my childhood and had a blast playing that too.

These new games i just cant even get into at all.

Im old af brahs. If the games not pixelated dont even fukkn put it on boyo.

I'm almost 30 but it's taken me a concerted effort to get into games since 20+. Ghost of Tsushima, Sleeping Dogs, Final Fantasy XVI, the Yakuza series, & the latest God of War games were incredible experiences. It takes a concerted effort to get into games at first & you gotta choose games hat fit subject matter you like forgive you dat nostalgia. Once I've put those initial few hours in to get sucked in, I'm always glad I did. I actually enjoy games much more now than I did in my early 20s.

I don't get immersed in single player much, but cyberpunk was a good one. First game where I was actually doing all the side stuff and sort of larping while I played. That game just had a world built that very few games could grip me in the same way.

To me most games, even the most revered ones, have very mid writing and voice acting. Cyberpunk was good enough that it felt more like a Hollywood production than a video game, not exactly sure how to word it. It just felt next level compared to most games I try.

I think they nailed it by having Keanu and Idris as your buddies through the story. Just felt like a better production.

I also preferred how all the story was in game, and in first person, versus cgi or cutscenes that show your character.

For me it's like I simply outgrew a lot of the big epics, JRPG's, and hardcore action titles. Same with online gaming for the most part, it's just too sweaty and demanding, I don't like not being able to pause the action whenever I like.

What I seem to play a lot is driving games, a variety of sports titles, and some stuff like city builders/sim titles, single player FPS, and RTS. Occasionally I'll play a Bethesda or classic Bioware style RPG. Then there's all the retro gaming I am into.

Yeah the occasional open world action title is fun as well, but the latest ones aren't as good as they have been in the past.

Yakuza is easily the best "newer" series out there. Played every RGG title twice except Infinite Wealth. Obviously not for every one but they really got me feeling nostalgic for games again. Really enjoying FF7 Rebirth right now. In many ways its better than the OG and i had that in 97 day one. Gaming is far from dead

Yakuza Like a Dragon is probably one of the only turn based RPG's I have really enjoyed, and the rest have fun beat em up-esque gameplay IMO.

Its not only that but the stories and voice acting and everything else about it is great. They modeled the towns very accurately. Every thing is top notch and the pump out consistently great games every year or 2.

Yeah I think that's why I enjoyed Like a Dragon so much for what it is. Most turn based RPG's seem to lean heavily on the fantasy lore direction or some crazy fictional settings, but it was different, featuring real Japanese locations and a story focused on some Yakuza dude kicking gangster ass. Plus all the side activities you can do in the series has always been a lot of fun for me.

I loved just going around the map and destroying/taking over the enemy bases, the destruction in that game was a blast to mess around with.

Yep it really just has everything you want in an action game. Do you know of any games similar to it? It's an old game and i didn't like 4.

Yeah 4 wasn't anywhere near as good. Can't think of much just like it to be honest. Kind of a shame because it was such a great concept. Maybe that Red Faction Guerrilla game? It's weird how destruction like that largly went away.

This is another thing. Like Assassins Creed/Far Cry for example. They are so buggy on PC you can't even play them. Rockstar launcher is also completely fuked. The better games are becoming harder and harder to play.

Just starting playing FO76 for the first time in a few years because they just added Atlantic City as a new area to explore, with quests and everything. Any Fallout game gets me really immersed during exploration especially with the radio songs that fit in so well with the Atomic theme of the series.

I only play the OG Red Faction. Game is goat. Another one is Brute Force. They don't make any games like this anymore. I also miss the destructible/interactive environments. They have been taking them out of the games for years now.

I like getting immersed in games that you can only play for 30 mins if u want

Something like he’ll let loose.

Time played =/= immersion

You can play 30 min game of he’ll let loose or some Fortnite bull chit for hours and hours

Yeah it's crazy, you'd think with the latest technology they could make destruction better than ever. Just yet another way I have been disappointed with the latest games.

Well even tho fps isn't your cup of tea, the destruction in the finals is pretty much everything red faction players could ever dream of

Source : dude who used to play rf and just tunnel through Mars with rockets

And if you haven't played teardown you are fukkin up. It's got amazing physics. Though it's kinda more of just a sandbox game.

I would love to see a modern red faction though. Guerilla was still pretty good even if not quite the og red faction

Didn't read the rest of the thread but solid turn based JRPGs and tactical strategy games still suck me in.

The last game that I REALLY got sucked into was Tales of Arise. I couldn't put that game down.

Imagine having Red Faction II available and pretending the OG is better. You guys can't even do retro games correctly.
