Do rotors need to be resurfaced to put new brake pads on?

Was at the stealership earlier and they told me they do and they want me to charge me $270 for both the front and back to resurface the rotors and put on pads. Aren’t break pads dirt cheap? Do you need to resurface the rotors?

You could probably buy the pads for $60/set from Autozone.

If your rotors are in good shape and not excessively scored, you don't need to replace/resurface to just change the pads.

Hardly anyone around here resurfaces rotors anymore, I'm surprised this dealership is

If the rotor has plenty of material left and isn’t scored or fuked up, I just replace pads.

Resurfacing rotors is some old school chit lol.

You can buy new rotors for like $100 each. Yes, they take some work to put on, but it can't be much more to just have them replaced.

Unless you wore the pads down to metal ,which only dumb dumbs do

There is no reason

The pad wears, rotor wear is minimal

Stop going to the stealership

In general, best practice is replace both. Can you go without changing or resurfacing rotors, sure. Would I? No. They're rather cheap and easy to do.

Its more work to resurface them than to replace them with cheap rotors.

I would cheap out on new rotors but don't cheap out on new brake pads. But who nose.

But $270-$300 sounds about right for a full brake job done to a high level. They have to remove everything and do a thorough cleaning. Heck, if anything they should do a brake fluid flush and replace too for that price since its not that hard.

At BMW they can charge like thousands for a full brake job but I have no clue why they would even charge that much since $500 would be the max for a full brake job lol. And BMW aint even all that. They losing to Toyotas lol.

Barely anyone "resurfaces" rotors anymore.

New rotors cost the same as the cost of milling old ones, so its moot point.

STealship probably charged you and didnt do anything to the rotors. You got screwde.

Rotors are so cheap today they’re just replaced on pad changes. Small difference in cost in having old ones turned and just getting new ones.

from what i looked into if I decided to replace rotors and pads it's basically the same price as what stealership is charging and i get brand new rotors. but the thing i wanna know is if my rotors are even bad. i cant tell if they are in good condition or not. i looked at countless pics online and cant even tell. i might just replace pads and see what happens
