15 y.o. high school football player dies from heart attack during practice

https://nypost.com/2024/08/08/us-new...g-at-practice/

Sophomore Jayvion Taylor, 15, was about 40 minutes into the practice — and in the middle of light drills — when the young student-athlete took a water break, then dropped to the ground just 10 feet from a coach, a Hopewell High School spokesperson told CBS 6 Richmond.

A pair of coaches performed CPR and called 911, the statement said. Paramedics arrived quickly, and brought Taylor to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It’s not clear if the heat played a part in his death — temperatures floated around 88 degrees Monday afternoon, with a heat index ranging from 90 to 98 degrees, according to the Richmond Times Dispatch.

Hopewell students — who returned in late July to classes at the high school, which is about a half-hour southeast of Richmond — were given off because of an issue with the building’s air conditioning, according to WDBJ 7 in Roanoke.

The district has also offered grief counseling to staff and students who need it.

Some have criticized the school because it did not have an athletic trainer on the field — the last one had been let go, and the school had not replaced them yet, according to CBS.

When I was on the track team in high school, one of my teammates fainted during practice because of the heat but at least he survived. RIP to this kid.

88 degrees is not hot weather for the South. Its warm, but not hot. 40 minutes of exercise at those temps should be no problem.

Kids a jabbie that's fully boosted. No doubt about it.

Sucks for him.

Energy drinks + vaping is killing these young dudes.

Every morning that i show up to PT many of the younggins are showing up with energy drinks in hand before we start working out. Always tell them to cut that **** out and address the real reasons they aren’t getting rest. Most of em don’t listen cause theyve built a whole culture off of downing energy drinks

Monster should do a crossover with Pfizer where they inject energy drinks directly into your blood stream.

A big problem with kids that age is that they live with horrendous nutrition. And in football they push the idea of being big (fat) is a good thing.

So these kids drink tons of pop, sugar, candy, energy drinks, vape, etc and then go out and push themselves hard on the field in hot and humid weather.

In soccer, we never really had these issues. Never had a single teammate faint even playing in 100 degree weather because we were all in great shape, hydrated, and didn't eat like retards.

Now mix in covid vaccines, genetics/heart defects and you have a horrible recipe for health hazards.

No, he was in the Army apparently. But I'm sure that was long ago.

Don't compare soccer to Football. It's not even close to the same thing.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Yea no football player can even finish a soccer practice because of their poor conditioning.

And no soccer player can take a tackle from a lineman without dying.
