Boyos, reps to first 5. Finally hit 225 bench today. For 3 actually
I never go for one rep maxes and usually never less than 5 reps unless I’m physically unable to.
I use to lift so much 10 years ago but never hit the 225 milestone.
I got back into lifting this January and when I put 135 on the bar I could only hit it for 4 reps.
Months of progressive overload and legit consistency, today I decided to go for a 1rm
Actually before today I never even put more than 200 on the bar. As like I said I never go for under 5 reps.
So anyhow today I decided to do 135 x 12 to warmup the muscles
185 x 3 all pause reps
205 x 1 (I was like that was too easy, 225 is going down)
225… first one easy, second easy, third was a struggle but I got it with no spotter. To the chest, no bounce.
Huge accomplishment for me.

Since hitting the gym this year I feel like a new man and obviously getting 225 made me feel like I’m in the boys club at the gym finally.
Lungs are trash due to the last disease I had but I maintain.
Yea my company does around $50 mil a year now but net profit no where near that. It’s hard but I love it

What's your typical bench routine?
Chest and triceps
Bench usually incline 2-3 sets then 2 sets everything else
Pec flys
Body weight dips
Converging chest press
Single arm cable tricep push down
Overhead straight bar Cable tricep press
Skullcrushers or seated dips
Keep in mind my arms also blew up from 15 cold to 16.5 cold
No TRT if people assume since I’m 38
Just creatine
Then my split goes as follows
Back and biceps
Shoulders and abs. DB shoulder press went from 55x 5 to 80 x 6 since in the same stretch
Legs

Crazy thing is these last 7.5 months was me CUTTING weight.
I did an InBody scan in Jan and then 2 weeks ago.
It said I cut 21.5 lbs of fat and added 9.3 lbs of muscle.
So I legit put on muscle during a decent cut…
I still feel like I need to lose 20 or so lbs to get to 12-15% BF before I can very clean bulk and add some legit size.

Congrats OP . Funny story, one time I went to the gym and got 225-9 .
The strange part was I could barely feel the first 3 reps , it was as though I was benching an empty bar . I don’t know what causes that ,and I wish I documented my last bench workout and diet that week

Then I ate one Oikos greek yogurt with 1 tbsp honey and celtic salt. (thats my typical pre workout)
Worked out at 230ish? So its semi fasted, just about 130 calories of food 15-20 mins prior to my workout. But damn the way the 225 went off… I was expecting to struggle, and was like **** may as well go for more. It was not planned at all, it was just so light…
