I kind of understand why being exactly on time is a White person thing srs
Growing up our family had a Puerto Rican family as neighbors that we'd sometimes invite over for dinner
If we said 6:00 PM it wouldn't be uncommon for them to show up at around 7 or even later
And it's not like they had to travel far, they were in the same neighborhood
It's just that's custom for them not to show up exactly on time as it would infer that they're too eager
The best way it was explained to me is that when you're buying a car you don't jump at the first price offered to you so as to not appear eager, even if it's a good price, but rather play it cool and bargain for a better price
Same thing applies in most other cultures
People from Spain are known to not eat dinner until like 10 or 11 PM
Some countries they actually go home from work for lunch and a come back to work a couple of hours later and customers just have to wait until they're back
So they're used to things not starting on the time it's "supposed" to start but rather give an hour or two leeway
It's only here and in some other countries that if you're even 5 minutes past then you're considered "late" and it's a huge deal

Smugness intensifies
