Auto insurance rates check

I bought a beater 2010 Toyota Avalon that is paid for and have state minimum for $108 per month. (TX)

Rates are insane lately with all the insurance companies claiming increast costs and claims and stuff and iunno if they are being sincere or not.

Uninsured motorists is a scam. They should be covered under your basic policy if somebody with no insurance hits you

I had Progressive since 2010. I used to work in Detroit and paid about $1200 for leases on 2 Grand Cherokees. I recently moved to a small town with about 1400 residents, 1 blinking light and 1 actual traffic light. Drive about 100 miles a week now. Progressive raised my rates to $2800 for 6 months. They gave me a bunch of BS reasons why. I switched to Geico for $1400.

Same ^
Had Travelers for years but they bumped to 4k for the year for two vehicles and an rv. Jumped to Geico and saved a ton. Seems the move is to just keep jumping annually these days.

Geico is cheap for a reason ,no agent that you can go see

I dropped them years ago ,I'd rather pay more

I was actually very happy with travelers I just didn’t see a reason to pay an extra grand a year. Will likely check with them again in 6 months.

Ive changed once a year for the past few years, each time cheaper for the same coverage until I got the beater car. You'd think these insurance copmanies would take a hint.

No you are not. Uninsured motorist is not a major cost for the carriers.

You are paying for the massive increase in cost associated with the technology that manufacturers put in their cars.

Example: The headlight for a 2005 Mercedes S class was $500 to replace, now it is over $5,000.

If you even dent your bumper in the front, you have to have the car frame inspected and realigned if there is radar or park assist or lane assist.

It is not just luxury vehicles either. Honda actually uses glue to connect the roof to the pillars on their Civics, if the car is damaged on the roof then it is a total loss. Tesla frames are so ingratiated with radar that any damage to the frame is a total loss.

Additionally, there are very unscrupulous people who are taking advantage of the windshield replacement where they submit overcharged invoices to the insurance company then sue when the company denies the claims. Enough people sue the insurance co has to dish out a lump sum to the attorneys. The way the laws are written gives the insurance co no recourse. They do this with roof damage as well, which is why Florida insurance market is so unstable right now.

There is more, such as the increase in severity of accidents, and the increase in litigation for liability but that is a whole nother page.

It is way more complicated than blaming the immigrants.

Some businesses that bill insurance and shady consumers can be just as bad and just as greedy as the insurance companies are.

Getting a beater with libaility only with $1000 deductable is the only way to avoid them if you have to drive at all. I hit a deer recently but didn;t file a claim. It only pushed the headlight in a little.

The margins a loss ratio for these companies are razor thin, this is why no PE firms buy insurance carriers, only brokerages (great margins)

The average loss ratio for an auto insurance carrier is 76% in 2022. For every dollar they charge the consumer, they spend 76cents for claims. 10 years ago the loss ratios averaged 29%

Around one year ago is when my car insurance over doubled for no reason

Nothing changed I got a clean record but they brought it from $70 to $144 per month

Once again ZERO reasoning AND they lied to me on the phone (extortion, ded srs)

(they couldn't even find the previously recorded convo which would prove they said my insurance wouldn't go up after I paid some BS fee)

Been meaning to switch companies this is strait up illegal whats happening (Geico)
