When someone says they listen to pretty much everything (music), do you believe them?

I'm always skeptical at this response.

They'll usually say, "Everything but country", but are they really listening to jazz? Ska? Metal? Showtunes? Other languages? Crooners? Power ballads? Etc?

Maybe I should give people the benefit of the doubt, but ime, most people that say this aren't varied to that large of a degree.

What say you misc?

Rap and some Latin Music. There are a few rock and country songs i like but i never mention them because i can't really say i listen to that genre if it's basically only a handful of songs

That's like saying somebody eats every flavour of icecream. They might eat any flavour you put in front of them, but when it comes to them going to the store and buying it, they will always buy one of the same 3-4 flavours, depending on what mood they are in.

What they are really saying is they don't usually eat icecream (they aren't in to music) and don't care what flavour you put in front of them, apart from rum and raisin (country) as they know they definitely don't like that one.

OR

They are white and don't know how to answer the question. "Should I say I like R&B, so that I don't look raciest?". "If I say R&B is that cultural appropriation?" "Country makes me sound like a racist redneck, so I have to say I don't like country or they might think I'm a bigot".

i think thats a default response of someone who listens to a multiple genres of music and is being lazy and doesn't want to rattle off them all


i would say i listen a wide range of music but wouldn't directly state i listen to everything
