Why do people hate dentists?

My dentist is pretty cool and hot. Never felt scammed by her or anything. Never tells me I have a million cavities or need unnecessary treatment.

What gives with you anti-dentites?

Finding a good dentist is actually hard. Alot will try to up sale you on everything. And there's also dentist who just suck at being a dentist. My previous one compared to the one i have now is dog chit. My current dentist is 10/10.

She said only thing corporate wanted was to drill baby drill and charge chit ton

Even if drilling wasn't necessary

They believe their service is more valuable than that of a doctor. I have a high deductible health insurance plan and my dentist charges $244 for a cleaning, my primary doctor charges $205. A cleaning and X-rays (done annually) is close to $500.

Because who likes having tools in their mouth, listening to a tool scraping your teeth?

Now, I will admit, it's waaaaaaaay better now, than in the past. Nowadays they won't use a novicane shot, unless they have to, they'll just use numbing gel instead.

Plus, if you DO have a cavity, they're not using mercury.

From what I'm also reading, the future of dentistry will be the use of lazers.

MD here. There is very little oversight or regulation of the dental industry. So you get quack dentists who will fill/pull/canal/etc whatever tooth they can get their hands on. They're competent and it's done safely, but I don't think a lot of it is necessary. 99% of the value of seeing a dentist, if you don't eat sugar constantly and brush/floss regularly, is what the hygienist does. And truth is, there are tools and techniques you can use at home to roughly meet those same standards.

There is a reason for the high suicide rate among dentists. It's calledmoral injury. When you have $300k in student loans and paying it off depends on duping stupid people into unnecessary procedures all day, it takes a toll on your psyche.

99% of the work is done by the hygienist.

Spoiler, some of these people are sadistic, they will try and say you have sensitive gums while they **** your mouth up with that pressure tool. My last hygienist got fired for it and i got a new one. New one was so gentle, i swear the last bitch was torturing me

The irony is that even if you paid out of pocket for a cleaning, it’s way cheaper in both time and money than needing extensive dental treatment.

Pretty much.

For example, all four of my wisdom teeth came in, and they came in perfectly straight. Now, if they were scam artists, they would try and tell me they need to come out. Not a single one ever told me that.

Definitely avoid the corporate dentists when possible.

Look for the older guys that have been running a practice 40-50 years.
