How do you feel about taking selfies with dead people?
About 10-15 years ago I became aware of this phenomenon. My niece would be taking selfies with her daddy (my uncle) who croaked relatively young. And about 12 years ago when my son died, his mommy (my ex gf, the big love of my life which I lost by implementing Misc. advice) would also take selfies with him.

It weirded me out at the time and I felt a strong urge to judge them. But now I see things differently as my mind has expanded and enlightened. There is no right and wrong about it, we're just a bunch of atoms, tears in the rain and dust in the wind

Feels smug now that the World Cup is over and not having watched any of it
Went from being a huge deal globally to old news within a day

Applies to most other things too

I also don't acknowledge major events that most people do such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's celebrations, birthdays, weddings, etc

Once they're over no one cares about them by the next day or so

Such as who cares who won the last World Cup in 2022

Likewise no one cares about the Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's celebration, or birthday that happened the previous year, let alone the years before

Feels smug to disregard major events that most people care about and instead let them pass you by unacknowledged because they'll be eventually forgotten about anyway

What’s the difference between a $10M, $100M, and $1B lifestyle?
What’s the difference between a $10M, $100M, and $1B lifestyle?

Asked this question in Hampton's Slack community since we have people worth $10m - $2b.
A few takeaways from the 50+ replies:

$50k – $100k liquid
• The first “I feel rich” for many in 20s.
• Bills stop hurting. You breathe.
• $1M net worth rarely changes anything. In high-cost cities, it’s just “comfortable professional.” Still very income-dependent.

$10M liquid - This is the first real unlock.
• Safety net feels permanent
• You stop looking at the right side of the menu
• Business-class by default, 5 hotels when you want
• You can cover friends’ flights to make trips happen
• Life doesn’t run you anymore.

$20M–$25M liquid:
• “I can spend $50k/mo forever and still compound.”
• Nicer primary home (or rent ultra-nice; fewer ownership headaches)
• Staff for convenience (nanny, cleaners)
• Family support start to be normal, not “splurge”

$50M liquid
• Cash flow is thick and hard to fully redeploy.
• 2nd homes, extended travel
• Serious privacy planning begins
• You’re learning trusts, tax vehicles, and who to not trust

$100M:
• Life becomes frictionless.
• Fly private often (some buy; many rent because ownership is work)
• Full household team + exec assistants + specialists
• Family office(s), capital allocation becomes a job
• You choose projects; problems get solved without you

Past $100M
• personal lifestyle doesn’t change much—scale and privacy do.
• Land for privacy buffers
• Private gyms/courts/spas at home
• You’ll never fly commercial unless you want to

$1 Billion
• Money becomes institutional.
• You never see a bill
• Global properties, fully private travel
• Governments, universities, and CEOs court you
• It’s legacy season: foundations, endowments, monuments

A few real anecdotes from the thread:
• A billionaire bought a pro sports team mid-flight on his jet. His right-hand guy became COO.
• A friend group dropped $200k–$300k on a yacht week just to get everyone together.
• Multiple members set up dual family offices (JPM + independent) to manage life + investments.

The biggest trap everyone warned about:
• “Coming into money without accomplishing anything is a curse.”
• Lottery-winner energy breaks people. Purpose > purchases.

Cash flow > net worth (psychologically).
• Even people with $50M–$100M feel “poor” during low-cashflow years. Meaning, even if you have a high net worth -- if your business income goes away even if you don't need it, it feels horrible. Mentally brutal.

What actually brings joy at scale:
• Buying back time (coaches, chefs, pilots, concierge)
• Funding memories (fly the whole crew, pick up every tab)
• Being present (one member took a year as a stay-at-home dad - “wouldn’t trade it for anything”)

What gets old fast:
• More “stuff” to manage
• Identity tied to net worth
• Chasing bigger dopamine (toys) instead of deeper meaning (health, family, service, community)

Found the mechanism of 5
Basically the people who push back against people who question authority and dogma are PLATONIST

I think this is the root of the problem. These are the people who are programmed like drones and have no independent thoughts. Theyre not visual thinkers. They fall for dogma and manipulation way easier. Platonist = non player character not able to have independent thought

These “people” value a pre-defined abstract code or systemic rules over raw, physical reality

They need someone to tell them what to think. Every single one of their beliefs at its core is handed down from some one else because it relies on reification

When a person values the abstract system over real world evidence, they can easily be manipulated by whoever controls that system. They become "NPCs" because they operate entirely within the bounds of a programmed worldview, aggressively pushing back against anyone who breaks the rules of that system.

These individuals often struggle to visualize alternative possibilities. If a concept cannot be neatly categorized by the authority or system they follow, it effectively does not exist to them.

NONE of their ideas are original because it’s built off someone else’s reification

If I don't win the lottery soon, inherit bigly, or die suddenly I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up
With the way things are going. Inflation through the roof, professional prospects fucked because of a.i. and automation. Migration destroying the continent. Totalitarian surveillance state.

It's almost impossible to be an extremely rich (at least a billionaire to multibillionaire) without being ruthless
Sure you can put on an act of being a nice guy who just worked hard for it

Wear average clothes to give the impression that you're just a regular guy

Even drive a modest car

But behind the scenes there's no way to get to that kind of elite, generational wealth without being ruthless

Stepped over people without a single care

Always put yourself and your success above all else

But put on an "aww shucks I'm just a normal guy" act to deflect all you did to get there

And only people who really know you know any better

v1.6.0 Released - Adult Section, Thread Deletions, Moderation, Rule Updates & More
Hi

Snails, the forum engine powering OB, has reached v1.6.0.

v1.6 introduces an Adult Section (more on that below), a reworked moderation system, options for deleting and hiding threads (originally scheduled for v1.5.5), and a number of bug fixes.

v1.6 differs slightly from the road map. Thread polls were originally planned for v1.6, but based on community feedback, they've been pushed to v1.7. In turn, the "NSFW Section" (now titled "Adult Content") originally scheduled for v1.7 has been moved up into this release. The roadmap will be updated to reflect these changes.

Adult Section

https://i.ibb.co/GQt8GKvr/432sfadf.png

The rules for this section are pending an update, which will be posted later tonight in a separate thread. Until then, please continue to follow the current rules.

The Adult Section only relaxes Rule 6.1 - Nude or Pornographic Content and Rule 6.3 - Nude or Pornographic Content. These relaxed rules will be supplemented by additional guidelines restricting AI-generated content and certain forms of pornography.

Restricting Access to Adult Content

Users who aren't interested in Adult content can opt out by checking the "Hide NSFW Content" box. At time of writing this feature is disabled due, however it will be enabled in an upcoming update later today.

https://i.ibb.co/PvjDzDLV/324asfd.png

Moderation

The moderation system has been reworked. Unfortunately, this also delayed the recruitment of additional moderators originally planned for June. Rest assured, finding new moderators and improving the overall moderation experience remains a key priority for the rest of the v1.6 cycle.

Thread Options

A three-dot menu now appears on threads you own. Clicking it reveals options to manage your threads, including the ability to delete or hide them.

https://i.ibb.co/bg90XmrB/43535234.png

Hidden threads will still be visible to you under "My Threads." At the moment, users with a direct link to a hidden thread will still be able to access it; this will be addressed in a future update.

Thanks again to everyone for the feedback and encouragement to keep improving the forum experience. There's a lot of exciting stuff planned for upcoming releases.

This forum is 100 times more pleasant without MiamiMario305’s spam (Super Ded fin Srs)
Ever since I put the tranny on ignore, there’s hardly any more low IQ spam and nonsense all over the forums. I highly recommend everyone jumping on board.

The ignore feature literally wipes them off the forum completely under your username. So they can spam this thread and I wouldn’t see a single post. I wouldn’t even see a post if it’s quoted, it’s actually amazing. (Super Duper Ded fin Sri)
